I'm curious to wonder about if there are actually more weirdos out there today than fifty years ago, or if we just live in a smaller, more invasive world where we are just more aware of it. Because if it's the latter, then I'm all for living as care free as the fifties or twenties (until the stock market crash, of course). My grandparent's neighbors all helped each other, but my parent's neighbors hardly knew each other. I make it a point to know my neighbors because I don't like that "waving friends" mentality. You know the one, you are out mowing the lawn and see your neighbor, so you wave. But then that's all you'll do. The quick wave and nod. When you make it a point to go over and talk and see how they are doing you start building relationships. Then you don't need to put up that 8 foot privacy fence around your yard. Then....okay, I'm slipping down the slope as well here. You should be street smart, but you should still basically trust people. I find that most people are just becoming jaded, and that's not the sort of society I want to live in....sober. ha ha Peace love and vegetable rights, Paul ************************************** * * and you know we've done some shows * where not a single person shows. Emma, don't worry. I don't think you are a psycho. Geez, Paul--I was doing nothing of the sort! And I wasn't assuming ANYONE on this list is a "psycho". Like you, I believe that "people are basically kind, good and honest." But the truth is that our society IS different than when you and I were kids (as John Lennon discovered in his final moments of life) and therefore, artists generally are and need to be more careful in their dealings with fans--who are, of course, usually strangers to them. Ciao for now, JON BRYANT ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Sep 2005 13:31:09 -0500 From: "LeeAnne Jackson" Subject: Re: MM: Hey List Mon . . . Sharon and Julie, I'm glad there are some other Patty fans that realize that we can't control someone's actions. Patty's music is true and honest, and therefore I take her actions to be as well. I love Patty, and without her music, my world would be a sad place. I don't go a day without popping in one of her CDs in my car, jamming out, or calming down from my day. I've also had the pleasure of meeting Patty. She took a picture with me, and signed an autograph after a show. She didn't say much, but I wouldn't either after putting my heart and soul into singing an entire set. She was very polite, and thanked me for my kind words of admiration about her music. The fact that she tool the time was enough for me. I know that after a long day of work, there are times when I don't want to talk to my own mother, let alone some stranger who wants to talk to be about what I do to make a living. Patty is fabulous, and I won't criticize her when I don't know her. Knowing her music and having my own interpretation of it is enough. I count that in itself a blessing.
