Somehow, THAT political commentary made it > through. Actually, the ones that didn't get through were NOT due to any "political" filters installed (there are none such installed). They were innocent bystanders of a filter designed to keep user-administrative requests hitting the list (i.e. posts that should be sent to majordomo @ smoe rather than mad-mission @ smoe.). These filters are not perfect and the innocent ones typically get sent on the moment I see them after getting home and checking email. Plus, my "no political discussion" post was not directed at anyone at all in particular. I just saw what was going on, didn't notice who was posting, was extremely busy updating a website I was behind on and fired off a quick "please stop it". By the way, wow! Almost a month went by with zero posts on this list. A new record...probably hammered the old record. :-( Have the discussion boards at pg.net been slow too? Mike ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2005 15:31:57 -0700 (PDT) From: SteveD Subject: MM: song request issue I think John McGuire answered this correctly (and he would know) but I'd just like to add that when you have a song bag with potentially 100+ songs, it is nearly impossible to have them all practiced up to the point where you can do them justice, just in case you get a request. Those of you who have performed regularly know this fact all too well. Also, Patty is the least likely artist to be rude. She is the sweetest, kindest artist I've even met. The original complainer smacks of a troll. We all should just be grateful that Patty is out there doing the quality work that she does. - -SteveD quote:"What the heck gives with Patty anyway? She rudely doesn't take requests." - --------------------------------- Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Sep 2005 19:27:22 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: No Patty Content - Re: MM: Please, again, no politics on this list If you do not care for things other than Patty Griffin topics here, you might as well delete this now. It has nothing to do with Patty. Former list-member Gary wrote: >Mike to the rescue as always. That is as soon as someone takes the side >he does not agree with. How about saying "stop" when the politics being >tossed about here are what you think as well for a change. I've watched >this pattern for years now. Gary, as usual you have no idea at all what you are talking about. I hardly even read the list for years now. I do however notice when arguments start up, it's not all that hard to do, especially with flame filters. If people discussed politics and didn't argue, I probably wouldn't notice for a while unless the (political) topic was also in the subject of the email. The main reason politics and other hot-button issues are not desired here is because they almost always start fights. Other lists tolerate it, some do not. This is one of those lists. If it was a message board with different areas for different off-topic issues, no problem. Flame away at each other on those topical boards. However this is not. It's an email list and many members do not want their inboxes filling up with stuff like political diatribes. I have to respect that and act upon it. I just posted to another that he was free to leave if he does not like the rules. In your case however you are not free to leave, I already booted you, again. For those new here I booted Gary years ago for reasons I do not even recall. They were not worth recording the information in my brain. However, on his own he re-joined the list a while back and I let it slide, just to see what would happen. Back then, when I first booted him, some cheered, some booed. It was not unexpected. However, when I did it it was not an easy decision for me, as I hated doing things like that. I had more tolerance then and just hated being driven past that tolerance. I have less tolerance now and put up with a lot less before I pull a trigger. Hence, he's gone again. There is a place for everything. This is NOT the place for political talk, mostly because it ALWAYS pisses people off and arguments ensue...on list. Most hot-button issues do. There are OTHER places to discuss these things. So don't go throwing HORSEBLEEP like this at me, it does not apply! If you do not like these rules, feel free to leave. They only know a few songs and that's all they want to hear. They are also the ones who tend to drink to much and yap all through the show. Of course I could be wrong , tell me what you think america. -mac ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2005 19:52:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Ronni Heggen Subject: MM: NPC Jennifer Caputo I just saw the movie Monster-In-Law and Jennifer Caputo ( I hope I have the name right) was in the credits and I can't recall what for (because I didn't know what it was) and I'm just wondering if it's our very own Jen Caputo???? - --------------------------------- Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V9 #163 *********************************
