Ok, I thought I would let this thread go by but now I keep thinking of "perfect records" and I can't contain myself any longer. Here's what I'd add to the list (in addition to LWG, 1000 Kisses and Flaming Red): Aimee Mann, "Bachelor #2" Lorna Hunt, "Sentimental Bedlam" Beck, "Sea Change" John Doe, "Dim Stars, Bright Sky" There are other, older albums that I would add but need to reach back into the recesses of my brain. Back to when they were actually "albums." I also remember Rumors from high school and the Cars, but though Rumors is definitely up there in "perfection," I may have to distinguish the difference between what is perfect and what is nostalgia. Everything is perfect in retrospect . . . anyway, may add more later. Great to hear all the passion in your writing about the perfect record. kara Tired of spam? Yahoo! The one that pops into my head immediately that I haven't seen mentioned yet is Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, Sarah McLachlan. The sequencing, the lyrics, the instruments, everything just blends together so seamlessly. __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Looked for Amber at the show , but no luck. Great drive from Nashville. At least the first 10-12 hours. Morning sun & fatigue made the last few hours an ordeal. Got an early check-in , & some sleep before the show. Met another namesake at the Paradise restaurant & bar , where I stopped for my food , drink & smoke. Bartender Dawn. She asked my name , & said , " Oh , that's mine too ! ". Rapport continued when I mentioned the excellent music being played , & it turned out to be her mix. Then I asked about local music , thinking about after the show , & she said " I'm going to see Patty Griffin , & I'm really excited ! ". Between the great music , & the big rapport with another Patty fan , I hated to leave. She said she couldn't get there early , but would try to get up front. Didn't get to see her after that , tho. Met Tammy again before the show. She's the Austinite who had never seen Patty , but got a front row center tik in Northampton one hour before the show. Now smitten by Patty's music , she was up front with 2 friends in tow. Set list ; J'irai la Voir un Jour / piano / solo Wade in the Water No Bad News When it Don't Come Easy Useless Desires The Long Ride Crying Over / solo Free / solo Up or Down / piano The Kite Song / piano Silver Bell Love Throw a Line Standing Rain Chief Top of the World Making Pies Encore Tears of a Clown Mind-numbing 1400 mile drive , with no overnight stop , prob wiped out a lot of memory. Following recent pattern , first 3 were great , then the sing- along started. Thing is , Patty seemed to be smiling a lot during the group singing , & appeared to be enjoying it. With her happy reactions to the loud crowds & singing , & her always commenting on quiet crowds with " you're so polite " , I'm guessing that she doesn't like feeling alone up there , although that's when she's at her best , IMO. JD was up to his usual stuff. Early on , he approached the monitor with his bass , creating a loud feedback , & then added a loud scream to it. Very distracting. But ya gotta love the way he prances about the stage. He's just a big sweetie : ) Was able to shut out the audience pretty well on " The Long Ride " , & focus on Patty's vocals. Top notch. With no " Icicles " , CO was my major highlight. Just Patty , her guitar , & her great voice , emoting her plaintive passions. Don't recall TOTW much , tho. Recall that the crowd was responsive , but not sure how much. Disappointed that Patty's usually big show in Austin was afflicted by system probs. Not sure if started before " Tears " , but recall seeing Patty more agitated than I've ever seen her on stage while they were going on. She ended it after " Tears " , & I'm assuming it was b/c of the probs , tho I really couldn't tell what the prob was from the music. The crowd died down quickly when she announced , perhaps b/c she seemed so resolute. Last time I was here , the crowd was so pumped that she said she felt like a Beatle : ) Rachel ( girlgoddess ) introduced herself after the show. Nice to meet you Rachel ! Decided to go straight to bed b/c I had to drive ( no drinking ) back to the hotel , & get up early for the Long Ride Home. Get ready on the Continent , here she comes : ) Listened to mostly mixes on the way back. Have only 3 songs on there by Leon Russell ( " A Song for You " , " Lady Blue " & " Back to the Island " ) , but they stand out every time I hear them. Listen to the melody Cause my love is in there Hiding Leon Russell " A Song for You " Don ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 May 2005 23:08:32 EDT From: TPar102961@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Stubb's - Austin , Texas i was there and my two friends. we drove up from fort worth.. patty was great as always.. loved seeing michael ramos before patty.. that was cool.. i liked her new lineup. missed the ol stuff but guess you have to make room for new ones occasionally.. teresa from fort worth ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V9 #107 *********************************
