Most of these show are one day affairs. There is still talk of going to Australia in the fall and maybe they will hit the West Coast before then. I believe the show was recorded around December. I had downloaded it, but lost it when I reinstalled my operating system. Would anyone happen to have a copy of this? Thanks, Stephen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 May 2005 01:16:00 -0400 From: "Donald Henn" Subject: MM: 930 Club - Washington D.C. No problems finding the hotel or venue , but......... Found a number of area Kinko's in the phone book & went out looking. Tried 4 addys , & couldn't find any of them. One street ended 4 blocks before the # I was looking for. Found another , & seemed to have the right block , but was in the middle of a housing project. The other 2 , I had probs with the brilliant NE/SE/NW/SW system. Was out for 3 1/2 hours & finally went to look for a restaurant. Ran across an addy 4 blocks from one Kinko's , & finally got lucky. Tried to pull up my draft of Boston , that I worked on for over an hour at Karla's. The subject was still there , but the text was gone. Murph came in for the show , & Dave & Rhiannia. Insley's dad brought her & friend Amelia in. Found local Mike at the front of the line as usual. He & I happened to sit in the same front seats at the last 2 Birchmere concerts. MMer Melinda saw my boots & introduced herself. Asked her if she wanted me to mention her name , & she gave me a message. Too charming to turn down , so ; Melinda from Virginia. ( Erie transplant ) Love Don's tour notes. Hey to Karen in Nashville. Thanks for the kind words from Melinda , Mark & Paul. ( MMers) That solicitation for appreciation was all tongue-in-cheek of course. It was mainly to set up the line about Lisa being damned to eternal hellfire for seeing Patty on the Sabbath. I must have heard the word " vicariously " used 10 or 20 times now , & am glad that I can help bring Patty a little closer to those who can't always see her. Set list : J'irai la Voir un Jour / piano / solo Wade in the Water No Bad News When it Don't Come Easy Useless Desires The Long Ride I'm Crying Over / solo Free / solo The Kite Song / piano Up or Down / piano Silver Bell Love Throw a Line Standing Tony Making Pies Encore Tears of a Clown Getting Ready Icicles Falling Afraid the show was uneven for me , but I'm sure it was great for those in better positions. I was too close to Doug's monitor , & too close to a number of singers & chatterers behind us. Hope Patty didn't think I was fawning & gawking when I was leaning way over the stage. I was just trying to avoid hearing the 10 cent voices diluting the million $ one. The solos mainly stood out for me , b/c Doug wasn't playing , & the chorus didn't know them. He played on IF , but for some reason , Patty's voice seemed stronger , & stood up to it. I was leaning as far as I could on the stage , elbows on stage , & chin in my hands for IF , & prob looked like a ga-ga new fan. Surprised not to hear a lot of sing-along on MP , b/c it seems to have a rhythm that would lend itself to it. After the solos & IF ; WITW , NBN & " Kite " were my highlights. The crowd was good , very strong responses toward the end after " Standing " & " Tony " , & then for the encore. Went long & loud for the 2nd , but no-go. Not much chat tonight , but did say she had to stay on the bus b/c hotels were booked up. She asked if there was a convention of cool people or something in town. I was thinking " Patty fans " , & there were spontaneous respones that I didn't hear until someone yelled " EVIL BUSH !! " , full of passion & laced with contempt. Hi Rob : ) Patty , of course , rebuked him , & changed the subject. Met Kim ( stormworks ) after the show , & will see her again in Nashville. Others had to head home , so I headed for Kinko's. A lot of us got some neat 930/PG posters thanks to Dave. Patty said " I'm Crying Over " doesn't have a name yet , & they go by " Crying Over " backstage , but I'll wait until an official name replaces it. Listened to Janis on the way here. One of few who doesn't suffer a great drop-off after a Patty show. " Hee hee ,that's it ! " If you had the real thing How would you tell Liars can say it all just as well Patty Griffin " Christina " Don ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V9 #95 ********************************
