Added FR to my CD rotation. Never got involved much in the LWG vs FR controversy , as I discovered Patty's music after both , & always leaned towards individual songs. Actually , I tended to lose track of which songs were on which CDs , but hearing them together after so long , it seems the songs on LWG wore better in the test of time. Front row center at the Calvin , & belly-up to the stage , not even leg room in the front row. Haven't been that close to Patty for a long time , & I'm sure it colored my perception of the show. Great to be close enough to see not only the body movements , but the facial expressions , & the " windows to the soul " as she performed. The woman next to me was from Austin , had never seen Patty perform before , & got her tik 1 hour before the show. Wha ! How does that happen ? Talked to the guy on the other side for awhile , & told him of my Patty travels. He says " I guess that's your life , huh ? ". I Consciously avoided any inferences & responded , " The best part of it " : ) Set list : J'irai la Voir un Jour / piano / solo Wade in the Water No Bad News When it Don't Come Easy Useless Desires The Long Ride Up to the Mountain ? / solo Free / solo The Kite Song / piano Up or Down / solo Silver Bell Love Throw a Line Standing Top of the World Making Pies Encore Tears of a Clown Getting Ready Icicles Falling I was anxious to hear Patty's " Pa Janvier " when it came out , with memories of the great French phrasings in a Joan Baez song ; " Plasir D'Amour " . I know I heard it , but don't recall it now. I suppose it didn't capture me , & I'll have to hear it more. Anyway , Joan's got nothing on Patty's phrasings in " J'irai ". Beautiful , delicate & sensuous. NBN rocked out even more than usual , & got a big response. Missed " I'm Crying Over " but was definitely more into all the songs as I was more focused up front. Patty seems to get really involved in " Standing " the way she does on " Tony " with much more body movement & facial expressions than in other songs. As Patty started MP , something made me realize that I had forgotten to turn my phone off. Thank God I'm unpopular , & don't get many calls : ) Turned it off in a half-panic , with visions of it going off during the quiet part of MP. Going to have to get a good reminder system , like flipping it closed over my ticket , or leave it in the car. It IS incumbent on those in the front rows especially , to avoid distractions. Had a tickle in my throat during a quiet piano song last year that drove me nuts. Had tears in my eyes by the time I got to cough. Patty echoed my sentiments when she complained about winter far overstaying it's welcome , with even Austin being 60 degrees that day. Have to say that we've been lucky in another sense , tho. Missed the big snow in Michigan , & never ran into any heavy , sustained rain. Between guitar solos , a fan said that Patty had such a sweet voice. Patty thanked her & said that sweet was better than perky. Then she went into a long story about Pizzeria Uno being taken over by a corporation while she was working there , & started changing things for the worse. Having them wear special shoes , wearing multiple watches for keeping track of serving times , & requiring a particular presentation , like " Hi , I'm Patty & I'll be your server today " , etc. , etc. By this time , she lost her train of thought , & a # of fans reminded her ; " perky ". She said she couldn't do the presentation thing b/c it just wasn't in her , & she was observed not doing it by a corporate " spy " checking the staff , but that she WAS described as perky. Someone yelled " thanks for quitting your day job " , & she responded , " thanks for letting me " : ) Met TDtT member Gerry after the show , not sure if he's an MM'er. He took some great pics that he said he would post. Didn't meet or chat with anyone in Ellsworth , but did get a " cool boots ! " remark.
