I was the first in line at 4:30, hoping to get the best seats in the house...only to find out that everyone else who arrived at 7:30 stood right in front of me. I was really disappointed in the venue. They waited until everyone arrived to tell the front row of seats (100 feet from the stage) that it's standing room and we were basically screwed. I guess that's what you get when they sell out a show and they don't have enough seats. Luckily I had on my 3-inchers and I could see above the 6ft. guy in front of me. Regardless I thought it was a great show. I think she did a fabulous job of pleasing the crowd...and she played most of my favorites. And I really liked a bunch of her new stuff - As always, I maneuvered my way to the front of the stage to toss her my red-bowed bag of M&M's and she acknowledged with a smile. That was pretty cool. Did anyone see what kind of shoes she had on?? red stilettos?? The show was only about an hour and a half, so it just was too short, if you ask me. And I was also one of the lucky ones to get in to one of the "front row" seats, to then be completely blocked by the jammed in crowd in front of me. Fortunately I'm a reasonable height, so I could kind of see when I stood up, but my friend is shorter, and had a little more trouble. Oh well. I did get some decent pics of Patty's head and shoulders. I raised my camera a few times and actually got some guitar shots too. If I get motivated, I may post some for viewing. I'll let you know. But I digress... I have to say, I really LOVED "Up or Down", the new one she did on the piano. What a beautiful song! I am now putting out my official begging request - did anyone get this one recorded? I think this would definitely be worth it with all the new stuff she's adding. - -Sandi Donald Henn wrote: Got me a warm jacket at Burlington Coat Factory in Madison , & headed out. I realize that it may have seemed like 100 feet with all those people standing in front of you, but it was more like 20. Having said that, I agree that the seating arrangements at Park West have always disappointed me. My first Patty show was there... the floor that was open last night was filled with tables that ran perpendicular to the stage, and the chairs were packed in leg to leg, back to back, like sardines. A rather difficult situation to be comfortable in when you're a guy like me, who's much closer to orca-sized than sardine-sized. When I walked in the door & saw the setup last night, I knew that I wouldn't be able to see anything unless I spent the evening on my feet... so I headed for the balcony. Perfect, although distant, view of everything. I've had my share of time w/in Patty-spittle-catching distance from the stage, though, so it didn't bother me. I think that "Up or Down" is by far my favorite of the new songs, at least lyrically. As closely as I can remember -- "Sometimes there's trouble on the ocean / Sometimes there's trouble on the shore / There's always someone hopin' there won't be trouble any more / It's an elevator, baby / Get off on any floor / It's only up or down". The kind of philosophy on life I can identify with. ;) Musically, I'm partial to the harder 'Getting ready to let you go' song. I wish I could catch more shows on this tour & hear them all a couple dozen more times, but I'll have to be satisfied w/ 2 & out. And those 2 shows simply leave me eagerly aniticipating the new disc! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2005 20:08:43 -0400 From: "Donald Henn" Subject: Re: MM: The Barrymore - Madison , WI Don't mind at all. This was a strange thing, because they usually pull up the lights and put on the "out you go" music really quickly if the performer is not coming out again. The place stayed dark for many minutes while the crowd clapped, stomped, and chanted. On the plus side, it showed how appreciative and staunch the audience was. I've never seen a Park West crowd so attentive and quiet. When Patty mentioned that she had the next day off and was looking forward to spending the day in Chicago, many people yelled out "shoe shopping!" They've obviously seen her before.
