She has been growing musically by leaps & bounds since I saw her at a small venue 4 years ago , & at 20 years old , is still developing & maturing. I only see good things ahead for her career. With a powerful voice that can also be sensitive & sultry , & excellent compositions , she's definitely got the goods. Don ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Aug 2004 20:08:18 -0400 From: "Don Henn" Subject: MM: Patty Griffin ; " Jukebox Queen " While in Harrisburg to see Darcie , Dave & I stopped at Kokomo's , a few blocks from the venue. They had one of the leading edge jukeboxes ( cd player ) that had a downloadable database from a remote site of 140,000 songs. Had to put in Patty's name & was delighted to find all 5 of her CD's available. Wasn't going to play anything at first b/c of the ambient noise , but that foolish thought was quickly swept aside , & I punched in 7 of her loudest , most upbeat tunes. In a first for me , it was really a treat to hear " The Voice " emanating from a jukebox. I'm suggesting that her fans look for the downloading jukes in your favorite haunts , & give Patty some play. With the success of the ID CD & tour , the outrageously good reviews from high profile sources , & the huge exposure from the NYT article , Patty is on the cusp. Who knows what little push might nudge her to the flashpoint ? Radio and/or jukebox play just may be the third leg of the stool. While Patty has expressed some concern about being too famous in the Times article , I'm sure that she's not going to pursue mediocrity to avoid it , so she may as well steel herself for the inevitable. Time will do the talking ~Patty Griffin~ Don ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2004 01:16:09 EDT From: Rockerpgh@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: NY Times article Wow. I've been looking at the Times every day for something like this, and here it is. I was expecting a review of Impossible Dream, or one of Patty's concerts, but I'll take this (though I hope for the others as well). It is the national media breakthrough we've been waiting for, folks. ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V8 #210 *********************************
