I've been a huge fan of Patty, ever since stumbling upon her performance at South by Southwest, in I believe 1999. I've been fortunate to hear a number of really good artists at the festival, during six of the past seven years that I've been lucky enough to attend. The one other artist out of all of the others that I've "discovered" and enjoyed as much as Patty, has been Alejandro Escovedo, which was the year before my first Patty experience. Anyway, he's a tremendous musiscian, but is currently suffering from hepatitus C, and there has just recently been a benefit CD released as a tribute to Alejandro. It's 32 songs, (2CD's) and the artists that contributed by recording his songs are incredible. From Lucinda Williams to Steve Earle, to Jennifer Warnes, Cowboy Junkies, Jayhawks, Son Volt, to Ian Hunter and too many other great artists to mention, I highly recommend it to all on the list, plus proceeds go to a good cause, Alejandro's medical fund. (It's title is "Por Vida.") I hope you will get a chance to enjoy it, or some of his own recordings. JD in Chicago ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Aug 2004 22:45:38 -0400 From: lindee37@webtv.net (Lindee) Subject: MM: OT-bad concert behavior I saw Cyndi Lauper in CT last night and was just devastated by the behavior of the audience. She couldn't even tell her story about the song, "True Colors" because people were yelling so much. During her encore someone threw something onstage at her and she walked off and refused to finish the song(I don't blame her). She then came back like the professional she is and closed with "Girls". My theory is that the problem lies in her opening act choice of Joan Jett....(who was fabulous), but so different from Cyndi and many of Joan's fans are perhaps not Cyndi's. What with the alcohol flowing and all I was thinking that might have been the problem. Have any of you run into this type of thing at concerts? I never have before and am feeling quite depressed about it. The two times I've seen Patty the audience has just been SO respectful.
