She is on track to be as great an artist as Patty herself. I saw her last month and she was very compelling and I can't wait to see her again. She was terrific, such a strong voice and just about as laid back as it gets. Oh, and her arms are gorgeous. r On Jul 10, 2004, at 11:59 AM, BBGIHL@aol.com wrote: > no one has mentioned eliza gilkyson, who has been playing around > austin for > years and whose sound continues to evolve as she gracefully matures > into her > 50s...although i find her new cd "land of milk and honey" a little > difficult > to digest (sorry for the pun), i may grow to love it..although i would > recommend you try the earlier "hard times in babylon" "redemption > road" or "lost > and found"--in order of my appreciation. try sampling some tunes from > amazon > or itunes (if they have them)--but, be warned, you can find a smoky > blues > number, a twangy ballad, a folky story, or an angry rocker all on one > cd so one > song is not necessarily an indication of the cd's style...although if > you like > the songrwriting and vocals, you shouldn't be disappointed in the whole > shebang... > > andrea ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 13:12:51 -0500 From: rhonda n Subject: Re: MM: Has anyone seen Mindy Smith yet? I just listened to some Mindy Smith and found her to be refreshingly positive. I just can't listen much anymore to angst, I guess since there isn't much of it in my life anymore. Am I growing up? I haven't seen this mentioned on this list yet, but Music Choice has cut their Americana channel. If you have digital cable or a satellite dish, you probably have Music Choice. It's always been billed as an alternative to commercial radio. Without the Americana channel, many of the artists mentioned in this thread no longer will be getting airplay on Music Choice unless they fit in somewhere else, which is doubtful. Patty got airplay there as well as Jesse Syke's, Wilco and Tres Chicas. It's a really sad time for anyone who enjoys this type of music. There are so many different artists that are lumped into Americana that don't really fit anywhere else, especially in a "mainstream" genre. Now, one less resource to hear new artists.
