Something else that Wilco and Patty share is that their styles have evolved considerably through the years but they still retain the essence that drew me to them early on. Some other artists I am listening to frequently right now: - - Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter - - Tres Chicas - - Mitch Easter - - Dave Alvin - - Bebel Gilberto - - Laura Veirs Just a small sampling, but suffice it to say that there are many interesting people to listen to, and we shouldn't close our ears to anything, the way that poor deluded soul in the Esquire article did. - -- SteveB ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 08:30:49 -0700 From: "kara Hetz" Subject: MM: Re: Re: Patty Griffin and Wilco Thanks all for sharing your favorites. I see some of my own picks on the list and can't wait to check out some of the others. And since we're sharing, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about Lorna Hunt. A friend (and fellow Patty fan) gave me some names to check out as I was wanting to listen to artists at the beginning of their careers. There is something about that early, somewhat raw and unpackaged sound that is so brimming with creativity and possibility. As a songwriter I find this particular time in an artists's career very inspiring. So I splurged and bought about 6 new cds. Out of that 6, one artist stood out like none of the others: Lorna Hunt. She has one cd, "Sentimental Bedlam," and I listened to every day for about 8 months. It's brilliant. Some songs remind me a little of early Rickie Lee Jones, but then she'll launch into a rocker--actually the cd starts out with one of these (Antigone)--that'll wake your sleeping confidence. Her lyrics are edgy and intelligent and the music is gorgeous, the whole cd steeped in raw emotion. Do yourself a favor and check her out. And then let me know what you think! I'd love to have another Lorna fan out there to bond with! http://www.lornahunt.com/ peace, all. kara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Berry" To: Sent: Friday, July 09, 2004 11:54 PM Subject: MM: Re: Patty Griffin and Wilco > Rhonda wrote: "In my opinion, the common thread between Tweedy and Patty is talent and creativity. The CD is in the car, or I'd quote lyrics. This is country, true, but far from the mainstream country that most people associate with the term. This is great music! Listen to Jesse Syke's new CD, too "Oh My Girl" because I think you'd like it. - -- SteveB rhonda n wrote: Nice lyric from 'Sweetwater', by Tres Chicas: Love eats and drinks and breathes Hangs by a thread of belief I remember me I am the girl of my dreams But it's so sweet how easily You untangle me *goosebumps* I must confess, if you would have suggested I listen to country music 10 years ago I would have recoiled in horror.
