No accidents , close calls , tickets or car trouble. Chose a great route , with smooth , uncrowded roads & great weather. Just a little rain , & heavy traffic near Indianapolis during morning rush. Traversing Nebraska during the daylight hours was a real treat. Cruise control , laid back seat adjustment , & great music. While The Doors surprised me on the trip , it was Crosby , Stills Nash & Young on the way back. " 4+ 20 " is one of those great gloomy songs that'a up there with Billie's Gloomy Sunday , & some of Patty's music. Never described much music as beautiful , especially before Patty , but I recall thinking that Critical Mass / To the Last Whale was the most beautiful song I've ever heard when it came out. That was before Don McLean's Vincent , & Patty's music , but it's still in the running.I imagine the lyrical content has a lot to do with it , describing the near extinction of these majestic animals to supply us with trivialities. Piqued my interest in the eco/enviro movements , but they quickly lost me when it starting costing many billions of $ to protect the habitats of inconsequential insects like the Snail Darter , & went beyond the pale when they started blowing things up. Great shows , & a great trip. With the Impossible Dream CD & tour , Patty has added substantially to her growing legacy. I have no doubt , that as history shakes out the wheat from the chaff , most of today's pop stars will be forgotten , while Patty's name will be up there with Billie's , Joni's , etc. Time will tell you baby What you can't hear now Patty Griffin " Time Will do the Talking" Don ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V8 #166 *********************************
