I have upgraded to DSL and am now using this fancy new email address. I wanted to share with y'all what I posted to the forum: Hi, first post here, long time Patty fan. This was my first chance to see her live, and she did not dissapoint. I knew she would be fabulous, but I had no idea that I would be quite so mesmerized. The wait was a bit of a bummer, I guess I should have checked here to find out that the doors opened an hour later than posted on the Granada website. No matter, though, as we met two terrific young men with a gift for gab. Once we discovered that we shared a love of not only Patty but Tori as well, it was non-stop, making the wait a pleasant one. I wish I had known that the Granada is standing room only, I might not have worn pumps and a skirt, but it was fun to have an occasion to dress up. Patty was a bit dressed up herself, in a skirt and red pumps. I thought for sure they were costuming to prepare her for singing 'Flaming Red', but my suspicion did not materialize. She wore a lime green tank top that provided full view of her beautiful arms, a treat for me, a lover of shoulders. I didn't realize that she was so--endowed. Best of all was her hair, worn down and fuzzy. I don't see many photos of her wearing it like that anymore, so it felt like a real treat. She reminded me of a faerie Janis. Like Doug, the album cut of 'Standing' was not an ID standout for me, until I heard her perform it live. She was at once choirgirl, soul sister and angel. Her powerful voice filled the small venue to perfection. I was sure that the band would drown her out, they were quite a force themselves, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Never before have I witnessed a live performer who so completely outshined their recordings. I expected her to be a bit more shy, being as softspoken as she is. I was pleasantly surprised to be off the mark there, too. She seems very comfortable with herself and with her role as star of the show. I was delighted with the nuances that she added to the songs with hand motions, facial expressions and dancing. I was truly rapt with awe the entire length of the concert. Being an admirer of Patty's entire catalog, there wasn't a dissapointing selection in the set, but there were a few standouts, for me. 'Chief' is especially dear to my heart, and I was ecstatic to hear her perform it live. I nearly exploded when she sang 'I wish that you could see me when I'm flying in my dreams...' I cannot tell you how many times I've sung along at the top of my lungs to that portion of the song. When she followed with 'Rain', tears filled my eyes. I wonder if she felt the gratitude pouring from my heart for her presence in my time of need. I simply adore all of her albums, but "1000 Kisses" is truly special to me. I could have fainted when she announced that she was going to sing 'Florida'. The song was an instant ID favorite for me. I can't believe the raucous crowd didn't go nuts when she belted 'singing their heads off.' I was standing taller than I ever have before, which isn't really much, being barely over 5 feet tall. I felt like a giant in her presence, filled with power and joy. I got the impression that her new album was only familiar to the most die hard of fans, you know, the ones who are there at the door of the cd shoppe before they open on release day. All I can guess is that they are bound to be listening now, after such stellar performances of the new songs. 'When it Don't Come Easy' was amazing. I was thrilled that she included 'Top of The World' on ID, and to hear her sing it was bliss. 'Long Ride Home' is one of my all-time favorite Patty songs, and what a treat that she chose to sing it for us. My husband commented after the show on the difference between Patty's soul-searching, vulnerable type of songwriting as compared to Tori's cryptic style. She has this uncanny knack for reaching into me and pulling out just the emotion that she had in mind. 'Let Him Fly' has always gone straight to my melancholy place and twisted my heart as tight as it can go. I lost my manic depressive father as a young girl, and this song is healing for me. I am sad to report that we didn't stay for 'Sweet Lorraine'. We were certain that the show was over, as the lights went way up and music started piping in. Good for my husband, though, who gets quite antsy waiting to leave a show. He's not a big fan of crowds, I was lucky to get him out to the show at all. I can only imagine that she sounded as magical as the rest of the night. The fact that the crowd was so enthusiastic seemed to excite Patty very much. Some of them were a bit too exciteable, or should I say drunk. I was super grateful to the security guards, who shusshed the more boisterous of the lot. Such an act is rare in these parts. Eliza was great, her voice is so strong and clear and what a funny woman! Nice arms, too! *grin* I feel a part of a very special experience. rho ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V8 #155 *********************************
