That's what letters to the editor are for (I know--I often write them myself on a variety of topics). Steve Gilmore Charlotte, NC USA Be yourself - it's the one thing you can do better than anyone else can do. RE: MM:Subject: MM: Wannabe writer KEVIN NOBODY BOZOSKI of the MilwaukeeJournalSentinel After reading the irrelevant "music review" by that guy, I went to the MilwaukeeJournalSentinel website to see if an actual human wrote this, or if this was some prank. The first thing I saw on the front page of their website was: "Dumping of sewage second-largest ever". Well, that settled it. Just as I suspected. At least the MilwaukeeJournalSentinel has the integrity to criticize their own critics. So, in honor of that writer's successful attempt at getting my attention, I hereby offer the Top 10 Reasons Why KEVIN NOBODY BOZOSKI is a Douchebag. Top 10 Reasons Why KEVIN NOBODY BOZOSKI is a Douchebag: 10. Forgets to write about music, instead writes about who's going potty and when. 9. Breaks out in a cold sweat when he realizes that the two affectionate women he saw were actually my sisters who had not seen each other for 10 years. 8. Thinks acoustic guitars are Socialist objects. 7. Watches and believes foxUnNews. 6. Can't get it up unless the audience screams out "Freebird" between songs. 5. Can't get it up unless male guitarists strike phallocentric poses. 4. When buying tickets he always confuses Patty Griffin with Georgie Carlin and therefore always misses out on all "the (good) jokes". 3. Can't tell kites from "white bird-like things", but once went on a trip with his mommy on a big silvery tubie flying thingy. 2. Too stupid to know that Patty Griffin is always "in excellent voice". And the number 1 reason KEVIN NOBODY BOZOSKI is a Douchebag: 1. Can't tell his ass from his "parody or pastiche". That was too easy. Thanks to the Sentinel for the great Patty picture! - - -SteveD - -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 May 2004 23:44:08 EDT From: Rockerpgh@aol.com Subject: MM: Impossible Dream (excellent) review, Friday, 5/21/04 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Here is the link. The review is included as part of a series of reviews printed in today's paper. Below, I've pasted the ID review. Took awhile for this review to come out. Given that the paper did not review or preview Patty's recent concert in town, I think the newspaper has to step up its work in reviews. FOLK PATTY GRIFFIN 'Impossible Dream' (Advance) In the autobiography of a dead man, Patty Griffin squeezes the failures of a lifetime into 51*2 minutes. In accessible folk-rockers, she's fun and adventurous. In bluesy story songs, her plaintive voice wails, and when she drags herself into an emotional black hole, it's impossible not to follow. Patty Griffin's fourth studio album is brilliant. There's not a filler among the 11 songs. She's an accessible and inviting folk singer on "Love Throws a Line," a gut-wrenching emotional drain on "Mother of God" and author of a perfect character study sung in the voice of a dead man on "Top of the World," which the Dixie Chicks turned into a cinematic video. Griffin has the unique ability to breathe life into her characters and chronicle their departure. "Impossible Dream" is a kaleidoscope of rich imagery and emotional snippets, molded into cohesive, robust compositions by a sensitive artist in her prime. - -- John Hayes ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V8 #130 *********************************
