Here's the review by Craig Havighurst: "On 2002's 1000 Kisses, Griffin leavened her literary melancholy with unforgettably luminous music. Her new album, while starkly beautiful, casts a darker spell. "Cold As It Gets" is windswept and bitter, and the piercing "Top of the World" comes off harsher than the hit Dixie Chicks version. While Griffin's woodwind alto sounds best singing of dreams that have a chance of coming true, she makes even gloomy folk ravishing." It's the second-best graded CD in the April 23rd issue (the one with Prince on the cover) and, if you can believe it, she even beats out William Hung's debut!!! Marc P.S. Yes, that was sarcasm. P.P.S. It's not like the review was a total pan, either. Besides, I never take a review as the gospel truth, and I suspect most people don't either. Just like I don't let a bad review of a movie stop me from going if there's something about it that seems interesting to me. I can definitely see some Dixie Chicks fans reading that and thinking, "Oh, wow, she's the one who wrote that great Dixie Chicks song. Maybe I'll check her out anyway." Granted, People magazine isn't the pinnacle of music review sources, but if someone had told Patty after she was dropped by her label and "Silver Bell" was shelved indefinitely that, in a few years, she'd be getting a new album mentioned in People, even if it was a lukewarm review, I bet she'd have been thrilled. She deserves better, of course, but I see the mere MENTION of her new album in a popular magazine like this a good sign. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 01:01:13 -0400 From: sharon G Subject: MM: patty premium WUFV will be offering one set of front row tickets to one of pattys shows at town hall..
