I like politics in my music. One of my favorite Tori Amos songs is "Sweet Dreams" and it is very political. I haven't noticed much "politics" in Patty's songs, but I can't wait for the new album. I also feel that much like Tori, Patty leaves much room for interpretation in some of her songs while others are more straighforward. That is clearly not a liberal or tolerant point of view, now is it? So rather than condemning Kris, Patty or whomever, maybe you should be the one to make the effort to suspend your prejudices and separate your hatred of contrarian politics from your love of music, not the artists. Let's see: discrimination, prejudice, intolerance.... gee, I wonder what your political views are? Think about how arrogant you sound expecting artists to agree with you 100% politically as a condition of loving their music. And to think most of them merely write and speak in abstraction, while you don't. Sure, condemn Patty and Kris and let the Fox News themesong ease your soul and lull you to sleep at night. Mimi PS: now if we shared your method of thinking, we would condemn you for your politically contrarian email and never be able to read your posts as having any validity again. I don't know who you are talking to but it can't possibly be me. Giving you the benefit of the doubt and taking the blame for not expressing myself clearly let me say for the third time that all I was saying was that I was sad that this album is political (which I am no longer even sure it is) because it makes it hard to listen to leftist rhetoric from the artists I love. I never said they didn't have a right or that they should change I just said I wish they wouldn't. I thought this might be an interesting topic to discuss to see how other people felt about this and if they have ever experienced the same problems. I never expected such hatred and lack of compassion from people for simply expressing my opinion. It is truly stunning. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 2004 00:46:42 EST From: Mooodeee@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Politics and Art Gee, what a most hypocritical statement, April! What are we talking about here? Wasn't it you who condemns artists for expressing their opinions? There you go, twisting around what is being said and then using the magic word "compassion" LOL! Typical right-wing rhetoric!
