She mentioned that the song was written in memory of Dave Carter, and then dedicated it to Tracy Grammer, who was in the audience. For those who don't know, Dave was Tracy's partner who died last July. And the title of the song is taken from a letter that Tracy wrote to her fans a few days after Dave's death. Her words about Dave's death were "despite my attempts to keep him with me, I could see he was already riding that thin chiffon wave between here and gone." Chapin is a big fan of Tracy's and is going to sing harmonies on Tracy's new album, as well as include that song on her own album. As for the rest of the show, it was amazing, Patty was more amazing than anyone and did seem to maybe get a bit longer appplause than the others (maybe, or I could have made that up). Did anyone record this last show? I'd LOVE a copy of it. Barring that, I should get my s**t together to provide some B&P and get one or two of the other shows, and LFML3. I have a thing or two to trade, but no burner... :( Yet.... Jess PS Tracy Grammer sold out the Aladdin Theater on Saturday night. >Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 13:08:21 -0800 >From: "Roy Larsen" >Subject: MM: The Last Show... > >Well folks, the SST has come to a close in Portland. Well, the French lullaby song (J'irai la voir un jour) came on and my friend let out this gasp, turned it up and told me how her grandmother and mother used to sing that song to her. She was SO excited to hear it. Theyre French Canadian (as is a lot of Maine) so I wasnt surprised, it was just a really neat reaction she had to hearing it. We got back to work, she copied the CD and is sitting in her office with that song on repeat." Hi, I just want to introduce myself. I'm Steve and I've been on the Yahoo Patty Griffin list for quite awhile now. I joined your list because of a mention on the other list. I love Patty's music and over time I have compiled most of the tracks of the first to LFML discs via downloads. I am looking forward to finding the songs from the third volume as well, especially after reading Sarah's wonderful story above. I love Patty's music. I differ from many people in that "Flaming Red" is my favorite of her CDs, but of course I love them all, and play them frequently, and have enjoyed the satisfaction of introducing her to my friends. OK, I've blathered on long enough! - -- SteveB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2003 15:04:01 -0500 From: "Luca, Joseph" Subject: MM: Top 100 Howdy--- Patty just came in at number 7 on the Top 100 poll on WUMB. Check it out at www.wumb.org . Ciao! The results have changed dramatically each year. I believe that this is Patty's highest charting ever. One year, Joni was voted number one, although she didn't come close to that this year. If they're not posted now, eventually they'll post the past few years' results, so we can compare. Ciao, Joe -----Original Message----- From: Willms, Gregory J.
