I have a couple of them now marked with the singer and then unknown. Just venting here. I don't notice that writing with a fine point marker bothers the concerts. I never write on the discs. The jury is still out on this one and depending what you use to write with, you could easily damage the surface and cut down on the discs life span. I like to use a sharpie and write the date and artist in the center circle and not on the top of the playing surface. I want to give my cds every chance possible to still be playable in 10 years. On the same topic ( disc longevity ) an even more important issue is what type of media you use. Not so much the brand, but what plant manufactured them. Discs made in Taiwan by Ritek are made with lower quality materials. Discs from Japan are prefered by comsumers worldwide as they are made to a higher standard. The hitch is that some manufacturers use plants in both locations. You have to read the fine print because you can find Fuji's and Maxell's from Taiwan and also Japan and the packaging is the same save the tiny small print made in... The only other difference between a Japan blank and a Taiwan blank is that the center ring is clear on the Taiwan media and opaque or frosted on the Japan media (and some even say " made in japan" or made in taiwan" on the cd itself). Of course, feel free to call me crazy but I want my collection to last and thought some may benefit from this info. ps I do not write ANYTHING on discs I send out I use a slip of paper with the info on it and put it into the sleeve thanks John ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V7 #291 *********************************
