I still remember that last time and it will not be happening again any time soon! Hopefully never. I am not big on N & V & vertigo. Those French Martinis just sounded so good. Caught my imagination, you know! Actually lots of my kid's friends have always wanted me to be their mother. I don't know if that means I have been a good one or a bad one. I get along pretty well with them now, but they did give me the runaround, each one of them. Could tell lots of parental horror stories. Could have been on Oprah a few times. Well, now no one needs me. My 3 kids are 26, 20 and 17 and I have done nothing but work work work all my life. Unfortunately, the one thing I wanted to be was a stay at home Mom, but as a nurse, had to work work work and probably will continue till I drop- and so these days I am hitting concerts whenever I can. Therapy. Most are not the expensive ones, Freight & Salvage is right in my town and runs $15- 20 usually. I did go to four 3-4 day music festivals this year and intend to continue that - I absolutely loved them. I confess to an addiction in live concert trading which has worsened over the past 7 yrs. I used to just trade Jackson Browne, but have discovered lots of other stuff. I think I did stir this list up this fall- it was very quiet but you guys have all come out of the wood work and livened right up and are even now trading LFML3 and I had nothing to do with it- so I am proud of you. As for the posters, well, I found it was not so easy to find places to let me post them. However tonite I was back on Telegraph Ave and checked out Rasputin Records store which the guy barely let me leave the poster- he would not even assure me that it would be posted. Tonite it was right in the rock section, the only poster on a white pole- 6 feet away from Patty's cds! Hurrah! And Amoeba Records had let me post it by the checkout counter and it is still there! So I did manage 2 good spots anyway. They only want to post posters that they are selling is the problem. I did post them other places but have not checked to see if they are still there. I imagine they may end up swiped for people's dorm rooms, etc. I guess that is ok. :) Nite, Dana in Berkeley, feeling like list Mom :) You are all very sweet. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003 07:39:12 -0500 From: "Digital Media Group, Inc." I didn't think I was a part of the whole M&M history, but now I'm realizing that I think I was. I went to the Sessions show back in '99 in New York and I brought M&M's with me so that others would know I was on the list. I didn't remember it until reading this old email posted by Mike Connell. Thank you Mike! I read that email back then and that's why I brought M&M's...I had forgotten all about it. I thought then that it was just a silly idea that maybe no one but me would even go through with -- and I didn't think that it would really catch on at all. Who knew? :) Michelle (in '99 my email address was mauseee@aol.com in case anyone recognizes me by that) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003 11:14:05 -0800 (PST) From: Emily Kite Subject: MM: Quick Patty Story I'm a senior in high school, and as today have been officially banned from talking about Patty in my Ethnomusicology class. It's a discussion class, which means no raising hands, and pretty much just saying what you feel like, within reason. Today we were discussing how music affects culture (instead of the other way around), and specifically how music we listen to affects us in our daily lives. I sat and listened to everyone talk, my feet bouncing, until my teacher, Dan, said 'Ok, Emily, get it out of your system. I know you have something to say about Patty.' I launched into something that sounded even to me on the verge of fanaticism, about the power and complete beauty of her voice, the amazing balance between fragility and empowerment in her lyrics, her AMAZING songwriting in general, until I was silenced by someone saying 'Oh, Emily, are you talking about that one chick again? Yeah, I picked up her cd cuz you're always talking about her. She's kickass, man.' !!!! At this point I was told by Dan that since my mission had been accomplished, I had turned someone else on to Patty, I'm no longer allowed to worship her out loud, at least not in that hour and a half. Hopefully a few brave souls among us will enjoy it. I've just independently released a CD called "Greenhorn", and there are samples available for download. It's sort of a "power folk" kind of sound, i.e. folk roots but with big guitars. Also, I know there are a lot of Buddy and Julie Miller fans here - a bunch of us from that list recently put together a fan tribute CD, which I think was recently presented to Buddy. You can hear my contribution of Julie's song "Blue Pony" on the Sounds page of the site. There were some really great versions of Julie and Buddy classics contributed to that disc. Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who checks out the site, and feel free to let me know what you think... I have since seen her 4 times and love her Cd Hard Times In Babylon. Actually, she will also be at Sweetwater in Mill Valley tomorrow night and I may well be there as well.:) Anyway- I would like to share again this good 2 Cd concert with some new people- I know it was shared around last year so older listers probably have it already. I hope you love Eliza as well as Patty. I'll weed it out as a true weed- 5 sets to first 5 people who can reoffer it AND send me their mailing address and they can reweed again hopefully to 5 more etc. for B&P or even trades as they wish. This one should not need to be treed as I know a lot of people have it. A friend e-mailed me the artwork he found somewhere- I don't know who did it, but thank you whoever you are! I will e-mail it to anyone I weed it to or who requests me to do so. Maybe we will eventually have a site somewhere where cd artwork can be easily accessed????
