I got the Patty CD/DVD today. The CD is wonderful (no surprise there) and I can't wait to watch the DVD. I was struck by Julie Miller's voice backing up Patty on one of the tracks, so I was curious which of her CDs (either solo or with Buddy) would be the best 'starter' CD, knowing how many fans of Julie's there are on here. Thanks in advance. Marc _________________________________________________________________ Send instant messages to anyone on your contact list with MSN Messenger 6.0. Marc, I'd suggest "Broken Things," followed closely by "Blue Pony." You won't regret it....Julie is a fantastic singer/songwriter in her own right. I didn't know she was appearing on the new Patty release. That's fantastic...two of my favorites.... The most recent "Buddy and Julie Miller" album is great, too, but is about half Buddy songs, half Julie. Buddy is fantastic, but I prefer Julie's stuff, so I'd go with one of her solo albums.... - -----Original Message----- From: Marc Hertz Sent: Oct 15, 2003 2:11 AM To: mad-mission@smoe.org Subject: MM: Julie Miller CD suggestion? I missed the Chicago show (my first time missing Patty in Chicago) and I am so, so wanting to hear this concert. All the reviews are making me so depressed that I missed out on this -- I'm a big fan of acoustic shows, and also really like MCC, Shawn and Dar as well, though Patty is and always has been my favorite. I would truly be indebted to whomever might be able to do this. I am on digest so please also use my e-mail when responding. Thank you. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 08:12:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Ronni Heggen Subject: MM: songwriter's tour--St. Paul, Mn. Hi all--Ronni here from North Dakota. I finally got to see Patty live again. Went to the songwriter's tour in St. Paul last night and I'm so glad I did. It was amazing. Just some random thoughts-- 1. those other singers must be so embarrassed to have to share the stage with Patty!!! Just kidding--I know that sounds mean but everyone was really great-really, really great but then Patty sang and blew them all away. I got the feeling that everyone up there knows that too, just from the comments that were made. There was absolutely no talk after any of Patty's songs, just huge audience applause and total silence on stage. The order of the night was MCC, Dar, Patty and Shawn. After Dar sang one of hers--probably the Babysitter song---Patty wondered out loud how she could follow that and Dar said "I think you can--you're Patty Griffin I think you can". Patty was very humble and always tried to make a comment about the songs that Dar sang before her but as amazing as Patty was--no one said anything about her. 2. Patty's set list: 1) Change 2) The Rowing Song 3) Tomorrow Night 4) Sweet Lorraine 5) Icicles Falling 3. The 2 new songs are beautiful--I can't wait for that CD!-It would be really cool if all the others there would come and sing on it. They added a little harmony at the end of Sweet Lorraine that was just gorgeous. 4. MCC's best song was her Johnny Cash cover of 'I Still Love Someone' and I don't know enough of her music to say what else she sang. A coujple of new one's I think. One was about a moon and it made me wish that Dar would follow with Calling The Moon and Patty would follow with her moon song too. but no. that didn't happen. 5. Shawn did a Simon & Garfunkel cover --'Kathy's Song' and it was beautiful--I've always loved that song and she did it so well. She also did 'One Cool Remove' from her "Cover Girl" CD. I had forgotten that MCC did backups on that song on the CD until they started singing it--I loved that too. She also did Trouble, Cry Like An Angel, and A Whole New You. I'd say she was my second favorite--I'm going to get all my Shawn CD's out again--it's been awhile. 6. Dar did the Babysitter Song, Are You Out There?, When I Was A Boy, Fishing In The Morning and a truck song (not correct order). She also said that fans have talked to her after the shows and if she has to follow Patty they always say how hard it must be to do that. then she said 'I can do this, I'm not the runt in the pack'! 7. At one point Shawn or Dar asked if anyone had any M&M's for Patty then Dar said she got hit in the head with some the night before. No one had any and I felt bad that I didn't properly represent the list! Was anyone from the list there? 8. The encore was that boy band song and Mary--I would love to hear that on a CD someday--having all of them sing Mary just made it that much better, I loved that. I wish they had done more of that full harmonizing cuz they were so good at it. 9. They announced that they are going to be on the Ellen Show next month!!! I wonder what they'll do there???? ok enough--I had a great night--one of my best concert experiences ever and I've been a concert whore for the last 4 years! Don't miss these ladies if you can help it--they are all amazing! I too would love a boot of this performance and I'm hoping they'll record it for a CD or a live show or something. I got my copy in the mail on release day even. Ordered it a few weeks ago thru the ATO > musictoday site. I just love the CD and DVD. I finally have some xlnt quality video of our Patty. Too cool. And the CD is great too. I love the boots I have but it's especially nice to have a professionally recorded live show of hers. I think I'll buy a few more copies of this to give to friends as an intro to PG. I like the M&Ms discussion you've all had. Since I am in the front row for the San Luis Obispo gig, I should have no trouble placing my bag of M&Ms on stage. I think I'll tape a card onto the bag so I can tell her how my wife and kids think I'm crazy buying all these Patty CDs, camping out in ticket lines, driving many many hours to see her play, and playing her music all the time. They may complain and think I'm nuts, but then I always catch them singing or humming her songs. Very infectious music I'd say. - -Steve _________________________________________________________________ Add MSN 8 Internet Software to your current Internet access and enjoy patented spam control and more. I especially enjoyed watching the interview with Patty...she has such an adorable sense of humor. I can barely wait for the new disk to come out next year. I assume, however, that anyone who has purchased A Kiss In Time has noticed that when you put the DVD in a DVD-ROM drive on a PC, the disc comes up labeled as "PATTY_GRIFFITH".
