Last night, a couple I know through another musician's discussion board (www.poltz.com) hosted a living room show for Austin singer/songwriter Troy Campbell (Patty's ex) at their home in New Jersey. You may remember seeing it mentioned here on the list... Hi Lou & Rain! At the last minute Troy asked them if they knew any female singers... he was apparently looking for someone to play a couple of songs in the break between his 2 sets. Those of you who met me at dinner before the show in Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago also met my friend Carrie (another Poltz fanatic), who just so happens to be a singer/songwriter who lives in Jersey. Rain got in touch with her, and she hopped in the car and made the trip down! As they were talking before the show, Troy told her that he had brought a couple of guitars, and that she could play either one she wanted, if she didn't want to bother to bring her own in from the car. He mentioned Eliza Gilkyson to her, and then mentioned Patty's name in the context of similar artists. So... Carrie felt like it was okay to talk about Patty, since HE brought her up first. She told him she had just seen Patty for the first time, etc. etc. ... and then Troy told her that one of the guitars he had brought was actually Patty's ('a Gibson C-5, or something like that', according to Carrie). Turns out that they still live pretty close to each other, and they even still share a dog, as well as guitars. Now... which guitar do you think she chose to play when her time came??? She joked that she was hoping some of Patty's talent would rub off on her. I may be biased, but I think she's off to a pretty good start on her own. If you want to check her out, go to www.mp3.com/carrieengdahl (her solo acoustic stuff), or www.thegreylocks.com (rockin' out with her drummer). Later...
