These people are so talented and play excellent cover songs to a T. If you like hard rock and want to see an awesome band come out and see them. I am a mad missioner but also love hard rock and you won't be disappointed EVER seeing these guys - the singer has also written a couple books of poetry and is an artist as well - very talented. Come check them out sometime if you are close by - you definitely will see me there - (I'll be the only 6'0" tall blonde you'll see)so come over and let's talk about my girl Patty. Check out their website - there are 2 links - one for ED (the poet) and the Doubleshot site as well. http://www.edwardjcarvalho.com/ds Hope to see some of you soon!!!! I will do my best with their sets, starting with Patty; 1) Be Careful, 2) Making Pies, 3) Chief, 4) Flaming Red, 5) Rain, 6) Top Of The World, 7) Truth No. 2, 8) Goodbye, 9) Mary, 10) Let Him Fly. I know there was one that I missed and didn't know, and these may not be in exact order. Patty said they were "toasty" because she and Doug had flown in from Edmunton, Alberta earlier in the day (probably the Edmonton Folk Fest?). She wore pigtails which were appropriate because it was a little humid in Pittsburgh anyway, and a long yellow dress. Although they looked tired the set was very spirited, you could hear a pin drop during "Mary". The ampitheater is set between two sets of railroad tracks that run parrallel to the Monongehela (sp?) River and there were more than one or two trains running during the set. Patty quipped that she "... wished she knew a train song". I wished she knew one too, she would probably do one very well. Doug's guitar was a little overstated at times, but I was sitting underneath the speakers, it might have diminished out further. Aimee's set included the following: 1) How Am I Different? 2) The Moth, 3) Sugarcoated, 4) Amateur, 5) Humpty Dumpty, 6) Susan, 7) Save Me, 8) This Is How It Goes, 9) That's Just What You Are, 10) You Could Make A Killing, 12) Calling It Quits, 13)Driving Sideways,14) Long Shot, 15)Scientist, 16) Deathly. The Scientist is a Coldplay song that Aimee had been asked to perform for a British Television show. The show was dropped before the song was played on tv but Aimee played it for us and it was beautiful. I had not known the story behind "You Could Make a Killing". Evidently it is a reference to her disappointment with herself at having thought she would like NoeL Gallagher eight years ago (pre M. Penn). As far as I'm concerned she avoided a loser and got a great song out of it. She and the band rushed through "Deathly" at the end, but we were lucky to get it- it was the second encore. Sorry to any Patty listers who resent the Aimee review but it was a great night for fans of both of these talents and, despite the trains, " .. a spledid time for all!". ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2003 21:12:32 -0700 From: "kara Hetz" Subject: MM: Re: Pittsburgh I've been eavesdropping here for a couple months now and this is the first time I've written but I just wanted to say thank you for the description of both Patty AND Aimee Mann shows in Pittsburgh--both are my favorites. I also grew up near there so it was nice to hear about a place that is familiar to me. And not to turn this into an Aimee Mann "thing" but I saw her here in Chicago on Friday and she was phenomenal. It was nice to hear the Pittsburgh review to compare the shows. I won't elaborate unless someone specifically wants to hear about it but it was quite something. Looking forward to seeing Patty at the Songwriter Tour coming to Chicago in October--I called Ticketmaster yesterday and still no listing for those tix. Will keep checking. Thanks to all of you who have kept me informed and entertained over the past several months, now that I have broken my silence.
