Jordan M.D." Subject: MM: Willie 4th of July Picinic Just got back into Missouri from Spicewood. It took 5 1/2 hours from Spicewood to Dallas, bumper to bumper all the way. A usual 9-hour drive took 14 hours to get home. GOD I love Patty. She was just BEAUTIFUL!! Her set was way too short. I was hoping for Angel's Falling Too Close to the Ground, but Willie only seemed to come out with the up and coming stars, to sing with them and promote them. Patty has graduated!!!!! I was front/center standing with only 1 (short) person in front of me. I could hear her voice, but not much from the speakers. My family said the sound was perfect and her voice was well captured. Nobody knew who was next on the set but when the guitars went up, I knew! Doug Lancio was so cute and you could tell he takes care of Patty. Everyone around me kept saying he was the guitar tech as he carefully tested every guitar. But I knew. All the chicks, young and old, around me sang the words to nearly every song... but nobody knew Mil Besos...except me, of course. (Actually I was faking it) And when the 16-year-old kid next to me wouldnt shut up...I slapped my palm over his mouth and held it there, throughout TOTW. My family tried to ruin it by holding a sign over my head announcing my birthday. They meant well but I had to put a stop to it.........at that moment it was not about me. Patty was giving me the best birthday present anyway.........after they listened to her sing........they finally understood. God I love to cry with Patty's songs. I never saw such an audience.....a hybrid of braless, hippie, weedsmoker, deadheads... teenage cowboy Pat Greene fans..... old Willie Wonkers from the 70's (me), and families trying to explain all the boob-flashing behaviors. (me again) Old farts under the "handicapped" canopy (my mom and her friend) and then there was my 15 year old...who while waiting forever for the Neil Young setup announced "Uhhh Neil Young was unable to make it so we brought to you the next best thing...Neil Diamond!" It was worth the trip for only 5 beautiful Patty songs. Amongst all the outlaws smoking POT.........only I got arrested by the technology police... who escorted me out to my car to take out my digital camera and then stalked me for 2 hours and caught me testing my new WAV recorder. It was a serious crime. They were really going to throw me out just 30 minutes before patty was to come on.......but reverse psychology worked........I told them to just keep it.........anything but throw me out. God being a groupie can be hell....but what a hellashish 50th birthday!! janet ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jul 2003 03:17:19 -0500 (Central Daylight Time) From: "Janet C. At lea= st =0D not physically. So if you are not inclined to fits of fantasy where Ms. =0D Griffin is concerned, then pay my email no mind and continue with your da= y.=0D But metaphorically speaking, she really WAS there. First off, my wedding = =0D was held at a beautiful lighthouse in York, ME. It was a clear, warm =0D morning and the ocean was calm. The wedding party walked down the "aisle"= =0D (which was really just grass) to Patty's One Big Love, fittingly starting= =0D with "Let's take a ride to the seaside..." Guests perused the wedding =0D program, which included a portion of lyrics from "We are Water" on the =0D inside cover. Last, the wedding favors were chinese fortune cookies, with= =0D messages inside that included my and my husband's names, the wedding date= =0D and the quote "She loved him like no one before, it was good to be alive.= " =0D Fittingly from a song about a June wedding date, although not the happies= t =0D of endings. Believe me folks, it's hard to find a happy Patty song that =0D will compliment a wedding day. ;)=0D Most importantly, Patty was there with me in spirit. I remember the first= =0D time I heard a Patty song and it froze me in my tracks. She has come to b= e =0D one of the most powerful impacts on my life, and in a very non-stalker li= ke =0D way, I love her. For sharing her gift with me, so unselfishly, I couldn't= =0D embark on one of the most meaningful ceremonies of my life without her =0D presence on that very happy day. I just wanted to share that with the lis= t, =0D to the only other people on the planet who would understand why I had to = =0D have Patty with me on my wedding day. Patty, if you're out there, THANK Y= OU =0D FOR COMING!!=0D Becca=0D =0D _________________________________________________________________=0D Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. The web site is a little sparse in this area. I'll be coming in from Portland OR and need to know how I should schedule my flights and accommodations. Right now I'm assuming coming in Friday around noon will not miss much and will probably need to stay over until Monday if the shows run longer than 6:00pm on Sunday. I've sent email to the organizers and haven't heard back yet so I thought I'd try the next best source for the straight scoop. There's no lineup on the web site yet and I don't know about Patty, but they did mention Lucinda Williams and REM on the radio today. Not a bad start at any rate. It's a three day event this year, the web site says 100 bands, and a pass for all three days looks like $72.50 if you buy early...pretty good deal if you can handle the sun, last year was pretty hot. http://www.aclfestival.com/home.html The New Yahoo! I was worn out and left after 9pm on the last night, and all the stages were still rocking with still more on the bill, so no telling how much longer they ran... at least till 11pm or later I think. Hope that helps! Mimi in Austin ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V7 #173 *********************************
