It's difficult enough to have the courage to stand up for what you believe within the small perimeters we non-celebrities live, but they did it and continue to do it in front of the whole world - no small feat; such integrity. She dedicated it to Michael Moore, who made an antiwar speech at the Academy Awards. As the Dixie Chicks played "Truth No. 2," video screens showed protest marches for civil rights and abortion rights, followed by book and record burnings and the destruction of Dixie Chicks CD's. Its final image showed the words "Seek the Truth." [etc.] The Dixie Chicks.... are not predictable; in "Top of the World," their new single, they sing about a dead man's irreparable regrets. The made a video clip for it, Ms. Maines announced, adding, "We haven't been banned from television yet." _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2003 20:54:08 -0400 From: "Lisa Zwick" Subject: Re: MM: Patty Songs Mentioned in NYT Dixie Chicks Review Yeah, they just had to use Patty's words to express themselves... It's kind of annoying constantly hearing these songs called "their" single, as if they wrote it. Yes, I know...the whole thing about it's good for Patty etc...don't repeat it. - -Lisa - ---- - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bonnie Lombard" To: ; Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 9:20 AM Subject: Re: MM: Patty Songs Mentioned in NYT Dixie Chicks Review > I have so much respect for these women. (Sappy Truth Warning) This contest that we're in is very exciting. The prospect of opening for a major-league star in eight of her tour performances is very exciting. Yes, I hope we win. But here's the thing: I hope we win, more for all of our incredible fans than for the four of us in the band. I am so incredibly humbled by the overwhelming support that we have received as we tried to figure out how to get ourselves clear across the country. You folks are the most amazing inspiration to me, and I feel a huge responsibility to represent you and Richmond as nobly and artistically as I can. Nothing would make me happier than to bring some positive press to our wonderful city, and I'm as proud as I can be to live here. Even if we don't win the contest, we will have already won as artists and citizens of this fantastic mid-Atlantic town. You can count on the fact that I'll always play in Richmond as long as I'm making music, no matter where this career might take me (and no, I have absolutely no plans to move away!). This is my home, and I'm eternally grateful to you, all of my friends here. May your summer be full of excellent health, fun, relaxation, good music, good books, and love. I sure look forward to seeing you soon! Your singing friend, - --Susan ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V7 #162 *********************************
