I brought my daughter's friend, Antoinette, and she was in the shower there at that time with Tyler playing Patty Griffin's "Rain" to her - he camped in back of us and I heard him playing "Rain" and had to stick around for more- he is pretty good. He did a great job of her "Long Ride Home" when he played the tweener. I have the impression from asking people at the fest that most of the audience is not familiar with Patty's music, so I was happy to meet Tyler, who said that he just discovered her 2 months ago and has not listened to anyone else since. That was my experience back in '96 when I first got her Living With Ghosts - I got captured by that CD. Flaming Red and Mil Besos are also wonderful, but I still love Patty acoustic on LWG. I wish I had not missed Tyler's bathroom performance:) but I was already tucked in. I am sending 8 people who befriended me here and there over the weekend a concert of Patty's from Jan 2003. If anyone here NEEDs one also before Fall Strawberry, contact me. Gratis in the interest of passing on the addiction. But then you need to get her 3 Cds to be fair. As for night time jamming noise- I was totally charmed by the music in the air. If a rowdy bunch had been near me, maybe I would have stayed up, but aside from Thurs nite when I went to Camp Carltone till 12:30, ( and enjoyed it very much) I had to get to sleep after the mainstage shows- just wiped out by everything I guess. The whole experience was a high, my first Strawberry. I wish I had met more of you- I kept asking folks I talked with if they were on this list, but met only a couple of listers. Maybe next time. We arrived at 9:50 on Thurs and got into camp at 1100- the line even then was quite exciting with anticipation of the unknown ahead. Campsites seemed kind of full and we ended up under the big trees at the right side of the campground near Coyote Meadow. I liked the fact that our cars had to park near the road but we were a little distance away under the trees. It did not seem so much like a parking lot. I did not meet up with any mosquitos the whole time- of course I slathered up with sun tan bug spray every morning too. Next time, I may try for the other roads over there- Yosemite Trails Road or Meadow View Trail. I walked around looking for a good spot for next time, but ended up with the impression that most spots are nice, no big worry about where to camp, unless you need to be next to real bathrooms at night or near the concert meadow to reduce walking. If you are lugging kids around, then near the lake would be good. I enjoyed seeing everyone's creative side coming out with signs and setting up housekeeping in the tents and campers. Some people even brought couches! Next time my camp sign will be up- Camp Mad Mission, of course , as Patty will be closing. That is the name of her internet list after a song on her first CD, Living With Ghosts. I did not cook, but gave each one of the kids $20 a day to budget for food and that was enough. Breakfast at the Dining Hall was great- lasted til 4 pm before I need to eat again. There was one group there that sang for breakfast that did the best 2 songs I heard all weekend-- I forget their name- they had good harmony- anyway one of the songs was Lay Down Your Weary Tune which I have not heard in decades and cannot for the life of me remember who sang it. I forget their other song now that I loved- but I said to the folks eating with me that that was the best song I had heard yet at the fest, and another man sitting there agreed with me. So If you are on this list reading this- Your 2 songs were the only 2 chillers I heard all weekend. I did not have room for much bottled water in the car, but just filled up the same bottle at the fountain several times a day- that water was very cold and good. I did love hearing the music, especially and mostly both Jackie Green, and Ruthie Foster, also Eileen Ivers, Waybacks, Slaid Cleaves, Steve Earle. Richard Thompson did 3 songs I loved, the slower mellower ones but he was pretty loud for me. The others were all exc. also but not really anyone I would necessarily drive hrs to see again. I could have lived without a couple, especially the loud ones. Now, if I could just choose the lineup myself, that would be perfect- but I did feel that it was good for me to listen to other musicians unknown to me, now I know who they are when I see their names, and altho I am definitely not into blues or bluegrass, It was still good medicine for my ears. Expanding. I have been in a Jackson Browne/Patty Griffin groove now for 6 yrs, with occasional forays into Richard Shindell, Cheryl Wheeler, Lucy Kaplansky, Dar Williams, Christine Lavin, Gordon Bok, Eric Andersen, etc. mellow singersongwriters, mostly acoustic. Anyway, Looking forward to the next Strawberry and maybe meeting more of you. Kate Wolf is next! I'm most likely going to go to the Green River Fest. I'm in Maine and I was hoping she'd have another show closer to here this summer...but if not I'll suck it up and drive the 3 1/2 hours. It'll be a fun little weekend trip I think. I have some friends here that would go and I have a friend in NJ that'll probably come up and meet me to go to it. I honestly don't know a lot about it, other than what's on the website. If there's a group from the list going we should make a plan to meet up. Sarah Emily Kite wrote: Hey all you zany mm'ers.
