Subject: RE: MM: Bootleging I guess part of this issue is also demand for these things. I don't have recording equipment, so I would never be able to tape a live show for my own listening pleasure. I have never purchased a boot for a Patty show, but I have for other artists. I don't have anything to trade with anyone, so there is no other way to get these things other than exchanging for money, right? I am also a huge Tori Amos fan, and she is in the same situation...a sort-of famous artist who gets almost no radio play. I have purchased boots from a few of her shows because she sings lots of songs live that she never records. Anyway...just another perspective, I guess. Hello to Insley...it's always fun to read your posts...reminds me of being 16! :) Heather Sweet Lorraine is on repeat in my cd player...over and over Not sure why. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 09:24:46 -0500 From: "Pernille Schmidt" Subject: MM: A little off topic I need help! Someone was supposed to mail me a live Jason Mraz concert after the discussion of which new artists to watch. I have waited in vain for over 2 months now so I dont think it is going to happen. Would someone else be willing to help me out? Also if anyone ever feels like helping me out with a copy of Silver Bell I would be really grateful, I think I am the only one on the list who doesnt have a copy. Thank you! When I try to turn friends on to Patty, and if they ask me to burn them a copy of her albums, I instead click and buy them the CD instead. I must've bought 5 "Kisses" CDs already. So are we protective? You bet. By the way, if you think that the brazen bootlegger profiteers on ebay are a recent phenomenon, check this out. When I was looking for a part time job while in high school in the mid 70s (yikes, mid 70s!), I interviewed with some crook in southern cal who had an actual office in town and had the nerve to make cassette copies of official releases of rock artists and then he put some crappy labels on them and had his employees to go door to door to sell them. I thought this was fishy and walked out of the interview. In the end the cops crashed his little party. I just can't imagine who tipped off the cops. ;) - -Steve >Date: Tue, 13 May 2003 18:44:42 EDT >From: FlamingRed74@aol.com >Subject: Re: MM: Bootleging > >Russ, > >This is a good point. However.. I mean, does she scrape it with a drumstick, or a heavy guitar pick, or, maybe with thimbles like used with a washboard? As you can tell, I am not a percussionist, but it's never too late to learn. When I take friends on road trips, we almost always end up listening to Patty (& Darcie Miner). When they ask for copies of original CDs, I either make them buy the real CD, or (if I really like them), I but it for them. Once they become addicted (they always do), then I burn them some boots. We, as Patty disciples (we used to call ourselves that here) uphere to a higher standard than some fans. :-) I'm willing to burn some Led Zeppelin or whatever for people.. but Patty material is definitely different. Shows are often traded, but there is also a phenomenon knows as B+P (blanks and postage), where you send blanks and a SASE and the person copies the show for you, free of charge. Please don't give anyone money for a show...that's kind of shady. Russ > .
