That > should be left to the politicians. After all, who are they to say anything? They are citizens. One does not give up all of their rights as a citizen because of their chosen profession. If I had access to the media, I would probably let my views be know as well. It would be nice to just leave it up to CNN and the rest, but the media is bought and paid for and presents a shallow and biased view. You should be happy that you come from a country where people are free to criticize their government. In my country, we do it all the time! It's fun! You should try it :) Now I'm not an American, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Constitution upholds the values of censorship and silencing criticism... quite the opposite. That sounds like Totalitarianism to me, not the freedom and democracy you claim to hold so dear. If I were an American, I would be ashamed by this banning of the Chicks. It says more about those doing that banning than is does about the Chicks. Anyway, I do apologize for keeping this off-topic post alive. I did want to put my 2-cents in there and now I have. At least I tried to keep it short. I'll go back to lurking now. Have a great day everyone. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2003 02:43:27 -0800 (PST) From: "Douglas J. I agree. They should keep their political views to themselves, and that goes for all entertainers--singers, actors, etc. They are abusing their celebrity when they get in front of a captive audience and start talking politics. That should be left to the politicians. After all, who are they to say anything? What makes them experts on our government? And it is especially sickening to see entertainers go to other countries and down-talk the leader of the greatest nation in the world. At least to outsiders, Americans should sound united right now. Especially at a time when other nations are against us--that just gives them more fuel for their fire. As for the Chicks, I really love their music, but my Chicks CDs have found their way to the garbage after I heard what they did. I've lost all respect for them. I hope their sales go down, and I hope no one pays the ridiculous ticket prices for their upcoming tour. Down with the Chicks! - -- okay, I do have to say one thing...It is the Dixie Chicks show. They can include whatever they want, however they want. If they want to throw in one, five, or ten comments during the hour and a half they stand upthere and play, they as entertainers have the right to do that. Who are you to tell them what they can and cannot do in THEIR show?? At any rate, I do agree with what Zach said about you never talking about war or anything else at work. To throw away their CD's, wish bad things for them (you should never really wish anything on anyone that you wouldn't wish upon yourself) is really taking it a wee bit far, in my humble opinion. We as American's pride ourselves in our ability to have different opinions. To say that we should keep our mouths shut here, overseas, etc. is just downright silly. They can say whatever they want, whenever and where ever they want. Anyway. I am usually very quiet on this list, but I had to say SOMETHING to this downright funny e-mail!! peace, doug Yahoo! But it's Stew's lush sense of melody and witty, journalistically detailed lyrics that make his second solo album, with its reminiscences of psychotropic drug dalliances and portraits of well-read women who carry switchblades, a true treat for those who care about innovative, thought-provoking pop.
