[ Subject: Re: MM: NPC: Dixie Chicks to be banned from radio across U.S.?? I was at the concert and she did indeed say that. I was also at two Patty concerts where she made extremely similar comments about Bush and please don't think that all Americans are as stupid as he is. Natalie basically apologised for being Texan, the comments have been slightly taken out of context and added to. She also made comments referencing country stars jumping on the bandwagon (i.e. Toby Keith) and mentioned that the US army has requested to use the song to play to the families of soldiers overseas, while mentioning that it is definitely not a pro-war song. She then introduced another song as their war song, being about love. I thought the concert was great, and I'm going again when they come back to England. She is entitled to an opinion, so why not express it?! Landslide is the next single over here anyway ;) Sarah >Subject: MM: NPC: Dixie Chicks to be banned from radio across U.S.?? > >Hey guys, > >This may stir the pot here a bit, but as I was driving to Maryland to pick >up >my dog from extensive spinal chord surgery yesterday, I heard that Natalie >Maines is making headlines again for yet another *questionable* (stupid?) >outburst. > >Apparently the Chicks are playing a tour right now in the U.K. Obviously >playing on the Anti-America sentiment that's riding high in Europe right >now, >Maines stated (among other things) that she was "embarrassed & ashamed to >be >from the same state as the U.S. President Bush who is so adamantly >supporting >military action against Iraq". > _________________________________________________________________ MSN Messenger - fast, easy and FREE! http://messenger.msn.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 16:17:02 -0500 (EST) From: dissident@mindspring.com Subject: Re: Re: MM: Yeah. You. You know who I am... - --Guess What!? Contrary to popular belief, there really are Morons out there who don't know when to use apostrophes or how to spell commonly used words like "blame" and "pathetic". --- There are also people who capitalize words that shouldn't be capitalized, like the word "morons" (unless of course they're referencing the inhabitants of the country Moronia). I'm just tryin' to help ya out, brother/sister. - ---This is bar far the most useful thing that's been posted today. --- What does "bar far" mean? - -- Amazing how many people flunked grammar class.-- You've just written a sentence fragment, something that should've been discussed in grammar class. I'm just tryin' to help a brother/sister out! Spelling and grammar errors get under my skin at times, too, but to think that people aren't going to (or shouldn't) get offended when you correct those errors in a pretentious way in public is, as Spock would say, illogical. I mean, come on...I could hear you muttering 'a-hole' under your breath as you read this response....:-) The world could definitely use a little more literacy. However, in my opinion, it could also use a lot more simple kindness. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 03:56:21 -0600 (Central Standard Time) From: "Janet C. Murph, I am almost in total agreement with you but I think you meant to say PIECE instead of Peace. And if the former president would have taken matters into his own hands, instead of Monica Lewenski's mouth, perhaps we would not be in this situation. (You know, looking for the lost buildings.) And I hope Eddie Haskell (whoops, I mean Clinton) resides close enough to NY City to have to breathe that cancer causing asbestos and silica that was liberated from the first 60 floors of both buildings. It will be decades before we realize the full impact of the attack on our country. Biological warfare started, when those buildings went down. We are already at war. I m thankful for our strength. Just to follow the logic a bit here...if it's inappropriate to open up a political debate in a music discussion forum, it would certainly seem inappropriate to open one at a concert in a foreign place. What bothers me most about celebrities feeling compelled to share there opinions is that they are entertainers, actors, musicians and might be opening there mouths about things they aren't entirely educated about or, sometimes, are down right ignorant about (ie Sheryl Crow's comment at the Grammy's about the best way to have peace is to avoid making enemies..BRILLIANT! If only she were a world leader!). I realize anyone can say anything they want about anything they want but celebrities also have a soapbox on which to stand and I think that's almost dangerous. What if I were to choose to get in front of a group of people and give them medical advice (assuming I had the power of influence that a celbrity does)? I'm not a doctor, I have no medical expertise, but I have freedom of speech, right? Great precedent. > > From: "Connell, Michael P" > Date: 2003/03/14 Fri AM 10:04:54 EST > To: "'mad-mission@smoe.org'" > Subject: MM: RE: NPC: Dixie Chicks to be banned from radio across U.S.?? > > > Dave wrote: > >>This may stir the pot here a bit, but as I was driving to Maryland to pick > up > my dog from extensive spinal chord surgery yesterday, I heard that Natalie > Maines is making headlines again for yet another *questionable* (stupid?) > outburst.<< > > {snip} > > >>Anyway.. It looks like some people cannot read my earlier request and insist on turning the original Dixie Chicks post from this morning into a political point/counter-point. I am surprised I haven't read a "Jane you ignorant slut" post yet. Since I do not even remotely have the time right now to deal with the "violators" on an individual basis, I have no choice but to close this list down for a few days. (sadly, the first time ever I believe). I will bring it back up Sunday evening and announce when it is OK to start posting again. In the meantime, each and every post that comes in from this moment until I re-open the list Sunday evening will be deleted and not sent on to the list. Mike - list manager P.S. If there are any missing apostrophes, hyphens, slashes, periods, misssppellllinngs or cases of bad grammar anywhere in this email, do not bother emailing me and telling me about it. Frankly Scarlett I don't give a damn. ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V7 #82 ********************************
