I was looking for the lyrics to see if that's the same song she started off with at the Folk Fest and I can't find anything titled "Lost Looking" by Sam Cook? Sounds like a *wonderful* show, though! If someone got that recorded that'd be a great tree! :) Peace, Sarah ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "Drank all I could swallow now the moon's gonna follow me home....." -- Patty Griffin ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Jan 2003 02:12:20 -0500 From: "Sarah Stanley" Subject: MM: Re: Tonight in West Collingswood, NJ Forget what I last posted about the Sam Cooke song. It's "Lost and Looking" - but you'd think if you put a search in for Sam Cooke "Lost Looking" one of the links would point you in the right direction. sheesh! Anyhoo, after much investigation, I found it and it is the song she sang at the folk fest too. :) Didn't she sound just grand singing that?! sigh. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "Drank all I could swallow now the moon's gonna follow me home....." -- Patty Griffin ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Murphy To: Mad-mission@smoe.org Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 1:27 AM Subject: MM: Tonight in West Collingswood, NJ The set list Lost Looking ( Sam Cook) Long Ride Good-bye Pies Be Careful Top of the World Christina Moon's Gonna Follow me Home Song for St. Mary, I'll see her one day (done in French) My Dear Old Friend Rain Chief Stolen Cars Truth #2 Mad Mission Mil Besos Mary Encore Tomorrow Night Tony Nobody's Crying As the bells of the Scottish Rite announced the nine o'clock hour Patty took the stage in darkness and opened with an old Sam Cook standard, "Lost Looking" By the time she was done she had taken us on a great journey through her songbook of nineteen more songs. She was talkative and giddy, little girl like at times and fun. Made fun of the way people in Philly and NJ say WATER, so Dave Goodyear asked her to play "We are Water" and she laughingly said the song makes her "pee" and she had a long way to go tonight. New Jersey was graced by the attendance of the evil one, wife and mistress, Don Hemm, Dave, Karla and the winner of the front row ticket auction Chris Day. After the show met with Patty and she says she will be back in the summer. Keep tryin', Dave! You'll break her down some day!> Ha ha, that's so funny! I had given up on the idea of her actually playing that one about a year or so ago.. but when she kept making references to "Worter" (the NJ pronunciation of Water), and when people were requesting cool old songs like "I Write The Book", I just couldn't help myself. It's so cute to actually get a face of recognition when she hears me out in the audience! Last night she said that "We Are Water was another one of her very old songs, but she had a friend who said that every time he heard it, it made him have to pee. After hearing that, it also made her have to pee, so she had to stop playing it". I WAS going to follow that with, "that's ok, just play it LAST".. LOL, but decided that she was too close to starting the next song, and I didn't want to throw off her rhythm. Last night Patty was absolutely amazing! Probably the longest set I've ever heard her play. 4 solo songs, 2 of them on piano. More new material than was expected.. and also more storytelling than she does a lot of nights. The stories about her mother singing to her in "silhouette" as she fell asleep at night as a kid brought back memories of my childhood. The stories of being in Cambodia & wanting to help more with the Landmine Free World benefit group shows what an caring & generous woman she is. Talented, intelligent, beautiful, sweet, charming... hmm, how is she STILL single?? LOL Anyway.. on another interesting note. As I'm sitting there in the 2nd row, in between the opener & Patty's set.. my self-described "feature wife of my dream world" Bree Sharp strolled through the doors right beside me! My jaw must have hit the floor.. For those of you that don't know, she's a singer/songwriter who is also very beautiful, and who has that awesome personality that sets her apart from most other women. (in my opinion) She kind of has that sweetheart/bad girl thing going on, which I like. :-) When I last went to one of her shows, I gave her some live Patty stuff because she's a big fan. As I watched her climb the steps of the Scottish Rite (the most awesome venue I've ever seen Patty in), I decided I was going to track her down.. LOL Then, halfway up the steps I chickened out, and went back to my seat.. before ultimately deciding that it just wouldn't be right to not at least go & say "Hi". (you can tell I'm oh-so decisive and "clutch" in pressure situations, right?) So, I head back up the steps with that odd dry-mouth, queasy feeling that you get when you're too nervous to talk to a girl who you think the world of, but decide to do it anyway.. LOL It turned out being very pleasant, & she actually remembered who I was, and what I had given her over the summer.. so that was great. :-) Bree, You Rock! All in all, a great night, enjoyed with great company.. (Karla, Don, Gary, Sandy, Vicki, Janine, Murph & his family.. Bree Sharp!!!) and Patty Griffin in fine form! Ahhh.. life is good. :-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Jan 2003 16:39:17 -0500 From: "Scott Antall" Subject: MM: Nobody's Crying tabs When I saw Patty this week in Pittsburgh, I noticed that she uses her DADDAD guitar to play "Nobody's Crying." Although the tabs listed at PattyGrffin.net (http://www.pattygriffin.net/Tabs/nobodyscrying.html) sound VERY accurate, it looks like this is what she actually plays: DADDAD Capo 2 Intro: 000000 440000 slide to 550000 Verses same as above, but when she gets to the part that says "In an envelope, inside his coat..." she goes to 770000 Played like this, it is probably one of the easiest songs that I have ever played (if you can handle retuning to DADDAD) Enjoy! Thanks again Emily for the ticket!! sorry we couldn't make connections. this was my third show and every time I have seen her I just can't believe so much talent comes from one person. I managed to talk a friend of mine who prior to Thursday actually didn't like patty to come with me and converted him! go me!! in typical form for me I sat there completely mesmerized with a wistful look on my face. how much fun to see her in a wicked small venue. I read in the Oakland press on Friday that she's going to be taking a break to write a new album. I don't know how I am going to deal with going more then 3 or 4 months with out seeing patty. peace love and happiness cholieGet more from the Web.
