Doug ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 22:11:32 -0500 From: "Sarah Stanley" Subject: MM: Ann Arbor Folk Fest Howdy! Just a short (i'm so tired!) review of Patty at last night's Ann Arbor Folk Fest. Patty had a WARM welcome to the stage, it seemed as though everyone was just waiting on pins and needles and were there just to see her! The lineup before her was great and I'd highly recommend checking out Billy Jonas and The Nield Sisters and Jeff Lang as well as the Waybacks (if you like intense fiddle and fast bluegrass-ish stuff). Then Patty.... the packed theatre seemed to fill up even tighter as she was about to hit the stage....she came out wearing a blue dress (royal blue!) and a black knit sweater over it with thick black platform shoes. Her hair was casually thrown up in a bun/pony on her head. Too cute. She had Doug and Michael with her again but a new bassist and drummer (can't remember their names!). She immediately started slowly singing a sultry bluesy tune. Not sure what it was and if it was a old cover or what (sounded like it...) but it was something about "my baby coming home" - very slow and low and old skool. The rest of the set list was as follows: Long Ride Home Makin' Pies Chief Stolen Car Top of the World Truth #2 Mil Besos (sounded so good w/congas!) Mad Mission Nobody's Crying She didn't come out for an encore since it was a festival of performers. Instead all the performers came out for a song together singing the traditional "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" :) Patty seemed so at home on the stage. She was dancing around a bit, when Doug or Michael would take a solo. She was talkative (joking about can-can dancers and such) and just seemed really at ease and to be loving her touring. :) She got a standing ovation and people shouting "MORE!" :) Any other people there with comments? I had a blast! Hmm. I have an idea of >who that might have been. not sure if you're implying that i was the one shouting, but i wasn't. :) I did say more than shout, "nobody's crying" from the main floor, where I was sitting. Heard the "Silver Bell" shouts over and over but wasn't sure where they were coming from. I don't think she minds the request shouts, but that one guy who shouted out "Let's hear some rock and roll!" !!!! what was that all about!? Maybe he was meaning he wanted "Flaming Red?" If not, um...come on dude, you're at a FOLK FESTIVAL. :) Patty went on to say something about not needing labels and that the best folk record in the last decade was the Sex Pistols "God Save the Queen" - the folkiest yet. Ahh Patty.... so cool. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "Drank all I could swallow now the moon's gonna follow me home....." -- Patty Griffin ----- Original Message ----- From: David T To: Sarah Stanley ; madmission Sent: Saturday, January 25, 2003 10:36 PM Subject: Re: MM: Ann Arbor Folk Fest Any comments?
