I believe you're thinking of Copenhagan..? I love that track, its one of my favourite songs by Patty. If anybody questions her versatility I tend to bring that out... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 07:39:45 -0800 From: Jerry Skomer Subject: MM: The mean judge should be Evil Gary and the meaning of Silver Bell I think he would do a GREAT job telling us how horrible we sound. And I REALLY like the idea that ATO would release a compilation CD of our efforts. Has Grammy written all over it, although if we won we would of course give thanks to Patty, Doug, Evil Gary, ATO, our mothers, etc. I just haven't a thing to wear however. Now on to a real Patty question, which I've asked before: Does anyone feel they know the meaning behind "Silver Bell" (the song, that is)? After all, she named her CD after this tune, and I would appreciate knowing what others think she's after in this song. In fact, the Bad Livers are pretty much synonymous with the classic Austin music scene. They are/were one of the greatest punk/bluegrass bands you have ever heard. Danny Barnes is still doing things solo (there's a big feature on him in this month's No Depression....he's up in Seattle now) If you don't own Dust on the Bible, Delusions of Banjer, and Horses in the Mines....you are completely missing out. Danny Barnes (of the fore-mentioned Bad Lives) scored parts of the movie and then the Bad Livers, Patty, and others offered their interpretations of some old school jazz classics. EM - -----Original Message----- From: owner-mad-mission@smoe.org [mailto:owner-mad-mission@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Jerry Skomer Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 18:20 To: 'mad-mission@smoe.org' Subject: MM: RE: mad-mission-digest V7 #17 Well, okay, I concede that clubbing each other on a desert island to win a dinner date with Patty is a bit extreme, although I did like the idea of a benefit show at the hospital. So, I've been thinking about other, less violent competitions. What if we had a karaoke night singing to Patty's song? Or an American Idol type sing-off with Patty and Doug Lancio as the judges? The winner could sing with Patty on her next album. (I am sure the ATO management or whoever reads this list for them would just love that. Almost as much as my idea of sending Patty money for Silver Bell, I should think.) Darcie can't compete, however, since she's a pro and would blow all of us out of the bar. I suspect that we might have to exclude Lori and a few other real musicians as well. Patty's songs, given her great voice and range, are not always easy to sing (I think) and would make for hilarious (miserable?) moments for the rest of us amateurs. What would Don Henn or Evil Gary sing? Dana, what you would weigh in with? Let's see, I would sing "Mad Mission" or "Mary," as they are tunes that are easier to carry. God help your ears, though.
