The homepage is http://www.visnat.com/login.cfm?CFID=218359&CFTOKEN=63513023 . Tell them "darboy" sent you... Anyhow, here's the blurb: FolkWax Artist of the Year 2002 We had many great nominees for FolkWax Artist of the Year. Before we get to the nominees, we would like to recognize some of the artists who received many nominations, but not quite enough to get on the ballot. Among those with larger numbers of votes who didn't make your final ballot were Art Garfunkel, Brooks Williams, Christopher Williams, the Dixie Chicks, Don Conoscenti, Eliza Gilkyson, Fred Eaglesmith, Garnet Rogers, Greg Brown, Jorma Kaukonen, Kelly Willis, Lynn Miles, Norah Jones, Peter Mulvey, Steve Earle and The Kennedys. And there were countless famous and regional nominees with a small handful of nominations. They are all wonderful artists and we are honored to have their names submitted. While there were to be only five spots on the ballot, we had a tie for the final spot and it was not broken by our editors, so this year we have six nominees. And the nominees that you have chosen for FolkWax Artist of the Year are: Dave Carter Patty Griffin James Keelaghan Carrie Newcomer Tom Pacheco Ellis Paul Click Here to Vote For Your Choice for FolkWax Artist of the Year 2002 And FolkWax Album of the Year 2002! Voting will be open until Saturday, January 18th. These are some great artists who have all had a large and positive effect on the music we love in 2002. We look forward to announcing your choice for FolkWax Artist of the Year in our January 23rd issue. Don't forget to vote! FolkWax Album of the Year 2002 We had many, many great albums nominated for the final ballot. We had many great albums nominated that were not released in 2002. Thanks for reminding us how great those albums were, but they could not be on the ballot. We would like to mention some who received multiple votes but not enough to make the final ballot. Among those were Peter Mulvey's 10,000 Mornings, Champ Hood's Bon Haven, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Will the Circle Be Unbroken III, Art Garfunkel's Everything Waits To Be Noticed, Garnet Rogers' All That Is, Eliza Gilkyson's Lost and Found, James Taylor's October Road, Cliff Eberhardt's School For Love, Richard Shindell's The Courier and Tom Paxton's Looking For The Moon. All of those fine albums were close to making the ballot. There were many albums by popular and regional artists that received nominations also. And the nominees that you chose for the final ballot for FolkWax Album of the Year are: 1000 Kisses-Patty Griffin Home-James Keelaghan The Gathering of Spirits-Carrie Newcomer There Was A Time-Tom Pacheco The Speed of Trees-Ellis Paul Click Here to Vote For Your Choice for FolkWax Artist of the Year 2002 And FolkWax Album of the Year 2002! Jordan M.D." Subject: MM: Patty Question I was just thinking and have this question to ask..............(although it s not my business)....but maybe one of you knows....... When I was at Austin City Limits, wearing my home-made shirt with Patty's pic, standing in the longer than long line for food............the guy behind me sparked up a conversation and commented on what a great person Patty is. He said he had known her years (>20?) because their kids had gone to school together and his son was 27. He said she would play and sing at the grade school for the kids..........sweet story..... Today I received the UK demo and listened to The Long Stairs.........about a hundred times........each time it brought tears to my eyes. At first I thought it was a wife singing to her husband, who had suffered a long illness and she was giving him permission die....... " There was a long stair... She held her hand out... She said it's OK... for you to rest now...we've had a long run... we've run a long way... we knew that one day... this day...would come... ....there must have been something good for you to love me so... must have been... something good... only you could know....he walked the long stairs...he said a long prayer....breathed in the cold air...she held her hand out" ..and on the 100th time I listened I realized she said "it's been a long time son....oh how I've missed you..." her words just stop and she hums the rest. It's beautiful...more tears...........is there a personal story here? Thanks, Janet ps....did she perform this in the UK? Did she play the piano or the guitar? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 18:07:47 -0500 From: "Jennifer" Subject: MM: I'm a newbie, please be kind. Hi, folks. I'm new to the list and I know all newbies on all lists share the tendency to poke their heads in and greet everyone, and, well, I'm no different. Anyway, I don't know why it never occured to me to go look for a Patty Griffin list online, but it never did until now, and I'm really glad to have found you all because I think her music is amazing and I know no one who's even heard of her which is frustrating. So, hello, and I look forward to hearing all the news and gossip and so forth. Also a question...or 2...I'm sure some of you have seen her live, and I imagine she's incredible but I've never seen her and would like to hear anything anyone has to say about it. Also, I was looking at the tour dates and I realize I've jumped on the boat a bit late hear and I'm just wondering if anyone knows when she'll be in the New England area again, or at the very least, when she was. Okay, thanks!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 18:41:15 EST From: Kaycee973@aol.com Subject: MM: STREET TEAM THIS IS FROM teamgriffin@colonymarketing.com Hello Everyone, We are excited to announce that PATTY GRIFFIN will be out on a string of U.S. tour dates later this month. I guess this guy must have his story a little mixed up. She would have had to be a child bride! Yeh....I've answered several people already but just to assure you that I was not implying that Patty is 50+....the guy seemed credible (though who knows.)
