Having said that... Johnny Cash will get attention because it's cool to pay attention to him. Like the curious Tony Bennett thing that happened a few years back. I don't know anything about the Chieftains album so I'll ignore that one. Nickel Creek seems displaced in this category. And Steve Earle will get tons of positive attention because of all the negative attention his Walker Blues song got. So although Patty should win this going away, Steve Earle gets the nod just so people who vote for this can say they "get it." Pissed already. The Steve Earle album is good, but far from his best. The Nickel Creek album is horrible, and Steve Malkmus should kill them for their terrible cover of Pavement's Spit on a Stranger. The latest Cash album is hit or miss, and probably the least effective of all the Rick Rubin products (though I think it would have been stellar if Cash had not been so sick.) I think it will be wither Patty or the Chieftans. The Chieftans seem like a Grammy-winning band. Sean "Lori Garvey" wrote: I don't think it will be tough at all. Musicians love to give Grammys to singers that make unpopular political statements. So, even though his album pretty much sucks!!! I bet he'll get the Grammy. As I said earlier, I think it's good, but far from his best (and not near as good as 1000 Kisses.) I am curious about your statement that, "Musicians love to give Grammys to singers that make unpopular political statements." Where is your justification for this? Yes, Rage Against the Machine has won a Grammy, but Grammys are marketing, nothing more nothing less. I won't be looking for the deep political meanderings of Nelly or Avril Lavigne this year. Am I missing something?
