And all those people that have tracks that are cut off, or are a different song than the title suggests, etc. Online trading is really only for people with highspeed cable, DSL, or T1 access, and those people that do not have a CD burner (though that too is more infrequent) are stuck with music they cannot get off their computer. I also think that the "postage cost" objection is rather overblown -- to mail up to four CDs in a padded envelope within the US first class airmail, it costs less than a dollar. Who wouldn't pay a DOLLAR for a Patty recording? LOL :) Of course, overseas trading would be MUCH cheaper online! The other thing that I like about traditional mail trading is that you get to meet a few of the fans of your favorite artists' work...every trade I've ever done we caht on emaila bit and ask qquestions about items off the other person's list, and make recommendations, etc...and get to know each other a bit. That element of "fan community" is completely absent in online ftp downloads. whew! surprised myself at how much I wrote! *my 2 cents* Holly ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2002 10:24:33 -0800 (PST) From: Jon Crouse Subject: MM: Patty on KGSR Broadcasts Vol. 10 After reading Jerry Skomer's post about Patty's contribution to the KFOG cd, I went to check out the lineup for KGSR's upcoming Broadcasts Vol 10...sure enough, she's on there, but it doesn't seem to indicate what song it is. She performed several times on KGSR this year... There are 41 tracks on two cd's, retailing for $15. From the KGSR website..."This year's compilation includes music from Shawn Colvin, Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, The Flatlanders, Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam, J. J. Cale, Bob Schneider, Patty Griffin, String Cheese Incident and others" Go check out www.kgsr.com if you're interested, the cd is available for mail order form at least one local retailer. I didn't think I would enjoy everyone else but it was amazing. Mary Chapin was sick so Garrison Star took her place, which I was glad of. Patty did 5 songs. She started with Rain b/c we were having a tornado heading our way. Then she did one I have never heard she called "Florida". She said it was inspired by a guitarist in Florida that broke her heart. She said that in Maine if you don't go to college you usually move to Florida. She also said she played with a group called Patty and the Executives after she got out of high school. Has anyone heard of this? But anyway, the song was beautiful, she said she recorded it last summer. Next she did Mad Mission, then Stolen Car, and then Mary. Her and Emmy did that one to perfection. All of Patty's songs were outstanding except Mad Mission sort of bothered me when Bruce began to play at the end and it made the guitars sound out of tune. I was amazed out how tiny Patty was. She was so normal and plainly dressed, it was great. Patty and Emmy both had a silk scarf from Cambodia on that the audience could bid on during intermission. Unfortunately I only had about 20 bucks with me, but whoever won was able to go back stage and meet them and get autographs. They ended up totaling 1100 and something. The scarves were gorgous. Well I suppose that's all on my viewing. The night was great except for the tornado we had to hold our breath during. -Selena _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #386 *********************************
