Subject: MM: Patty in the UK (goes OT, I'm afraid) I stand corrected -- because the first album was actually rejected, I never thought of it as "unreleased". There's a fine distinction there, and I fell onto the wrong side of it, according to the responses I got. But, as for the Billy Bragg pairing -- yeah, I thought it was unusual, but....wait a minute, Matthew : "Billy does formulaic agit-pop in a mockney accent and tries to pass himself off as Folk, kinda like semi-acoustic, older version of what Blur did" An older version of what Blur did? What, you mean after they'd realised the acid-daze incarnation of their first album wasn't going to carry them any further and they ditched it for suits and Anthony Newley vowels? I'm no Bragg fan (despite a soft spot for the occasional song, I hadn't planned on sticking around much for his act) but he was going at it long before Blur started their style-surfing, and ANY voice of dissent (however "formulaic") has to be welcome. Not just (and I apologise for going OT) in the Thatcher days of asset-stripping, but now -- now more than ever. You know, I might just stick around for his set, now. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 11:34:57 -0800 (PST) From: Diane Aylsworth Subject: MM: Back to the Ark Hey Michigan folks... They always have such wonderful performers and the talent displayed is just awesome. Now, with Patty HEADLINING it'll be even MORE of a huge success! I suggest driving from nearby cities and states to attend this event...you won't be sorry. Although, this year it will be a little different in that it will be at the Michigan Theatre instead of the Hill Auditorium and it will be divided into TWO nights rather than just one. The Ark website says that it will be posting the performance schedule for each night in early November. You can check at http://www.a2ark.org/ for updates. :) Non-Patty plug: don't forget! Tori Amos' new cd, "Scarlet's Walk" comes out tomorrow, Oct. 29!!!! Get your copy -- it's GORGEOUS!!! :) weeeeee! peace and great music, Sarah ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "the music and the hope for love keeps me alive....but still i wonder...." -- Deb Talan >From: Diane Aylsworth >To: mad-mission@smoe.org >Subject: MM: Back to the Ark >Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 11:34:57 -0800 (PST) > >Hey Michigan folks... > >I just received a notice from The Ark that Patty is going to be the feature >headliner for the 26th Annual Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
