How could I not have been awesomely impressed with Patty's playing and singing? Of course, I was. I enjoyed this show every bit as much, if not more, as the one in Atlanta not too long ago. The venue played a huge part in making this one so incredible, though- the Laurel Theater only seats probably 125 people so it was incredibly intimate. It's a church that's used for both shows and Sunday morning services, from what I overheard. Patty commented right away that she was finally back in church, and several times throughout the evening, she'd make reference to the balcony area and how that's where the choir was supposed to be- tried leading her listeners in "Ave Maria" a couple of times. She told a brief story of what she said was one of her earliest memories- of sitting in Catholic church and knowing the nuns were in the choir balcony behind her, and confusing them somehow with angels because that's what angels were supposed to sound like. She said she recalls singing right along and her mother shushing her.....and commented that sometimes what we keep our kids from doing when their small is what they end up doing for a living. Patty said at one point how cool it was to be in Knoxville, the home of an awesome singer/songwriter and the audience seemed to know Scott Miller very well. Now I'm going to have to find some of his music because- once again- I feel like I'm missing out on something that I could be really, really appreciating. That's how it always happens with me- trying new music on the recommendation of someone whose opinion I respect. If he's good enough to get Patty's attention, he's good enough for me. Lullaby for Ben - acapella (it sounded vaguely familiar, but I didn't >know it by name; my wife, Mary, however, nailed it: it's called All The >Pretty Little Horses, and she has a Holly Cole CD [dark dear heart] with >Holly's version of it) (after finishing Patty looked down at Ben, saw him >still sleeping, and said "... but I don't think Ben really needs a >lullaby"). _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 16:49:29 EDT From: FlamingRed74@aol.com Subject: MM: Those looking for Silver Bell... Thanks to everyone who helped to put the compilation together, and thanks to Doug Fanning for being an expedient and way-awesome branch. And there's a Patty song on it that I never heard, so I bought it. SO far hers is the only song I've listened to on it, but I like it. Just wish i understood the words.... - -Lisa ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #276 *********************************
