They cover beautifully Truth #2 ( a lot of violin...a bit more country than the Silver Bells version...but pretty similar arrangement) and they end the CD with a (dramatic?!?)version of Top of the World ... again very nice ... with heavy strings at the end. I think you will all like it. And does that Truth #2 ever sound like a hit!!! My friend who works for the label had no idea which cuts were Patty's and thought it was the absolute best cut on the album. Well them are my two cents. They have someone else listed as the opener, but no, it's me. : ) We just opened for them last night at the extremely tiny Khyber in Philly. Was a cool night. So check it out. ~darc http://www.darcieminerband.comGet more from the Web. I love Marah's first two albums, and hate the new one so far, but would drop everything to see them anywhere, much less the Stone Pony. My favorite Stone Pony story is when Paul Westerberg was playing a solo show there and asked if there were any locals around. When everyone cheered he called them a bunch of fucking jerks. Congratulations Darcie, it looks like things are happening for you. As an aside, are there any Marah fans on this list? I think Kids in Philly is one of the best albums of 2000, and Let's Cut the Crap is even better, but I cannot get into the new one. Maybe I would like it if I were not comparing it to two great albums. Honestly though, I think that if I heard this, not knowing it was Marah, I would laugh at it. I've already discussed the album ad naseum on another list, but thought I'd check the waters over here. I think it's great. But I'm also such a huge Springsteen fan, and since he's *barely* singing on 'Float Away' makes it even better. I think people are seeing Ryan Adams and musicians of that style start breaking out, and I think that's why the took they path they did. When I first saw Marah it was at the Whitaker Center with Steve Earle. I was hooked, the banjos, dobros.... everything was great. They did lose a little of that with this album, but I still love it! If you like them you missed an even better show... It was an acoustic show last night because their drummer had to go to the hospital. Any other band would have canned that show, but not those boys. They did everything minus the drummer. Oh it was great. I also have heard some stories that Springsteen *might* be there on Sunday. He shows up out of the blue all the time, plus since he's on the cd........ Let's just say I will shit myself if he's there!! You know what, I have never heard Lets Cut the Crap and Hook up Later Tonight. I want to though. I'll have to pick it up. Rock and roll and thank you!! ~darc http://www.darcieminerband.com - ----- Original Message ----- From: beccasean@peoplepc.com Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 4:05 PM To: mad-mission@smoe.org Subject: MM: Re: me & Marah @ the Stone Pony That is friggin' awseome. I think you are dead on with the reasoning that Marah is taking this new path. All the guys who Ryan Adams ripped off, I mean "was influenced by" are now foing something else. Wilco, the Old 97s, Jay Farrar and Son Volt, etc. 2. I've heard Bruce shows up spontaneously also, so if he does, don't focus on shitting yourself, but remember every other vivid detail for me. 3. If you know of anyone who might have taped last night's show, let me know. I'd love to hear some of the new songs done acoustic, and you're absolutely right, I woud have loved it. Congrats again Darcie, and tell Marah to come down south soon. Sean On Thu, 25 July 2002, "* Darcie *" wrote: ________________________________________________ PeoplePC: It's for people. I know there are some New Yorkers & close to that area people on this list, so here goes: I have 2 extra tix for The Who concert on Thurs. Aug 1st & was wondering if anyone out there is interested.(Friends who were supposed to go can't). I would give them away for free if I could but alas, I cannot, so I'm just asking for the $84 dollar ticket price, no Tickmaster charge or anything. I don't like the selling on the street thing that much(don't think I'm bold enough). But people here seem friendly, so I thought I'd try here first & save that as a last resort. So if anyone is interested e-mail me & we can work out the details. Thanks! - -Ellen ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #272 *********************************
