Emmylou Harris, with a little less country and a little more rock. Not really my thing, though I had the joy of seeing her in concert twice, once with a very unappreciative audience (opening for Howie Day) and once with the Girls Room tour. Left early at that one. Patty got her voice back today, and she really made use of it. She was just so incredible, I can't even begin to describe it. For Chief, the high parts where she cracked her voice last nite, tonight she soared. I'd write the setlist, but I need to get to bed, so i'll just mention a few things. Just about every song she played, she extended it, doing fancy little things w/ her voice, making sure she really got use out of it now that she had it back. She looked so happy, constantly smiling, and i hardly took my eyes off her face. The audience was so supportive, a small venue, yet it sounded like it could fill a stadium. Everyone cheered so much, that after her three-song encore, she gave in and came back to do 10 Million Miles. And everyone was ready to keep on clapping, if it would have gotten her out again. Flaming Red was just amazing...she went all out...singing on the top of her lungs. Top of the World...man...I dunno how I can go back to listening to her cds now....they just don't compare. I said to Don that he's so lucky, b/c he gets to practically carry her around in his pocket and listen to her every day, while most of us have to settle for her cds. Now I'm torn b/w listening to the cds and getting that stuck in my head instead of the concert, or just not listening to her at all. It was an eventful evening as well, someone fainted, and Patty was so concerned for them. And some guy in the audience kept complimenting her skirt, while she argued that it's her guitar strap that's attracting the cheers instead. Damn nothing's coming out on paper the way it should. I just can't describe it. It was just so incredibly amazing to stare up at her and feel the music vibrating, flowing through me. Wish there was a way to pocket that feeling w/o following her around. By the way, if anyone out there got this concert on tape, cd, anything, PLEASE can I have a copy? I hope someone got it recorded, for memory, even if it's not a great copy. Ok I'm rambling now, but I just can't get over how wonderful it was. I hope the great reaction she got from the audience will convince her to come to NY more often, not just when she's released a new album. Before i was wondering how Don could follow her around to so many concerts, singing the same songs, and not get sick of it....but now I see how hard it would be to get tired of hearing her live. Well, i guess I'll go to bed now...if I can fall asleep after this...I just can't stop thinking of it...and I don't wanna stop. - -Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 00:52:41 -0400 From: "Lisa Zwick" Subject: MM: oops I forgot to mention....at the end of the concert, i got one of the song lists :) And for Truth #2, it says "TRUFT" .
