It looks like the two Patty songs that the Dixie Chicks recorded were Truth #2 and Top of the World. I just got this email from Amazon: - ------------------- Dear Amazon.com Customer, We've noticed that many of our customers who have purchased albums by Patty Griffin also enjoy the music of Dixie Chicks. For this reason, you might like to know that Dixie Chicks's new album Home will hit the shelves on August 27, 2002. First of all, but for a few songs, I generally don't like the DC (notice I did not say I hate the DC--that's a word reserved for Jewel, and before anyone gets pissed off by that comment it was meant in jest), second of all, I fear that one of Patty's greatest songs (Top of the World - IMHO) will now be forever known as a DC song. god help me if they release it as a single. However, if it is a DC single and is a hit, at least Patty will reap some of the financial rewards that she so richly deserves.... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 12:52:38 -0700 (PDT) From: beccasean@peoplepc.com Subject: Re: MM: Dixie Chicks --> Top of the World and Truth #2 I wonder if she will get the credit she deserves though. Mainstream country music seems to have a flippant attitude to songwriting. I had the misfortune sitting througha Lee Ann Womack concert recently (she was opening for one of the greatest live performers of all time - Willie Nelson) and as she and her band played one horrible song after another, she said, "Whoever wrote this next song must have been thinking of me whenever he or she wrote it...I guess it was a she, because it's from a woman's perspective..." I can't argue with the fact that there is money to be made, but I am not looking forward to the next time my wife and I plat Top of the World at open mic night, and somebody asks for "more Dixie Chicks" Sean On Thu, 18 July 2002, "Thomas H. (an update) Hey guys, I am moving along with things here. I have burned enough copies of disc 1 to send out to some of the branches. I just have to find a few hours to do disc 2 before I can start sending them out. There is also one issue with one of the songs on disc 2 that I have to deal with before I can finalize it. Anyway, I think I'm going to let tree sign ups go through tomorrow. Because of the overwhelming response from people who volunteered to be branches, I didn't even have to use everyone who volunteered. I DO have the tree structure (branches & leaves) tentatively finished, and will just add things on as more people sign up tomorrow. As of now, the most copies anyone is going to have to make (after me.. LOL) is going to be about 10 copies of the compilation (or 20 discs) Now.. I'm sure there are going to be some stragglers here. People who were on vacation & missed out on sign ups, etc.. I'm going to be out of town myself for the better part of 2 weeks here coming up next week. So please, try to take the time to help everyone out on getting this. If someone missed out on the sign ups, & you have burning capabilities, don't be shy about offering it up to them. :-) I'll be posting the full tree structure either on Saturday, or whenever I get disc 2 done, which hopefully won't be any later than the end of the weekend! Take care, Dave ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #265 *********************************
