Ok, I am still going to go, but I am disappointed- I have never seen the Chieftains and am interested to see this tour Patty does, but why is she not doing some of her own songs??? By the way, they may be her songs. Lots of artists play their own songs with the Chieftains. I would assume, although I'm not sure that they would be her own songs. I'm disappointed too. I haven't decided if its worth getting a babysitter for a long night during the week for only 2 Patty songs. I've never seen the Chieftains, but its still iffy for me. I do know this is their 40th anniversary tour and there could be other guests. I actually e-mailed a contact at ATO Records about it and she initially did not know Patty's role at the shows, but e-mailed me today that she would be performing 2 songs with them. The venue knew nothing (as of yesterday) about Patty even playing at all with the Chieftains. Jon ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I am somewhat offended by the criticism regarding going to where Patty is. I'm a bit jealous of those of you who can follow Patty all over the country. Unfortunately, some of us have jobs and families and don't have the unlimited time and money necessary to take off for Vermont for a long weekend. I'm as obsessed and excited about Patty's music and live shows as anyone, but at some point reality comes into play and prevents me from seeing Patty play. Someone had to say it. As always, good to see the usual suspects for beer and laughs before the show. Karla rode along with Sandra and I. She is a fascinating multi faceted person and very kind. Even though she taunts businessmen in elevators. First Darcie. I was very impressed. She is still very young but she plays guitar well and sings very well. A couple of rotten boyfriends, a death or two and maybe a really torrid fling in Mexico and we could be hearing great things from her. Funny stuff of the night #1. Walking into the men's room, at the bar before the show, and finding Dave, shirt up, wrapped in a tangle of wires and microphones. LOL! To which he says, "I'm so glad that's you." LOL! Second funny of the night. Watching Mad Mission "Patty" and her friend getting rousted from their row two seats as the lights go out and being moved just in front of me, around row 7. LOL! Patty Griffin.....amazing as always. BUT!!! Once again she keeps Evil from hearing "Nobodys Cryin". Stolen Car made up for it. As did Long Ride. As did Truth2. As did Sweet Lorraine. As did Goodbye. And of course the really great "Followed home by the Moon?" Which I do believe was recorded for the first time last night. My thanks to Don, for taking the tickets to Vermont for me. Enjoy the random act of giving them away, that you are so well known for. I got tickets to the West 57th taping by lottery or however they did that--couldn't go and had to give them away. I got free tickets to the recent Ann Arbor show (thanks to Jen C. )--couldn't go and had to give them away. Got my tickets in the mail today for the July 14 show in Minneapolis--it has been cancelled and I will probably be out around $40 in TicketBastard fees, which I can ill afford. The show looks to be rescheduled (tentatively) for the one week this summer when I will be gone--in California. I have been a rabid Patty fan for years now, but have never been able to see her live. How many times have you seen her again, Gary? Seven? Eight? More? I applaud your generosity in giving the tickets away, but is it really a gift if you DEMAND that someone accept it? I know that this was just more of the typical evil bombast that we love Gary for, but please try to remember that there are quite a few of us out here reading every review of shows you've seen, every "I get to see Patty for the 47th time. I'm so excited!" posting, every "I have such an abundance of chances to see Patty that I can just sprinkle tickets on the ground for the less fortunate" offer and we are happy for you and we wish you well, but sometimes it rankles a bit. I'm just saying.
