I think that opening for them is ok for Patty- people who like them might not be familiar with her, so they would be potential new fans and I think that anyone who bothers to know and follow their music could like Patty's music as well, altho they are nothing alike. Me, for example- I like both. What the F? You have until tomorrow, or as God is my witness I burn them. During her last show in Boulder , Patty said that Mercury would be out of retrograde in 2 days , so I guess everything's going good for her now , & we can expect some great shows in the next few weeks : ) Another thing I forgot to mention in my reviews ; Played some tapes on the trip that I haven't heard for awhile. A 90 min of Carole king , & another with some of my favorite songs by female singers , that I made a long time ago. Linda Ronstadt's "Long , Long Time" , Karen Carpenter's "Goodbye to Love" & a few others , Emmylou's version of "Here , There , & Everywhere" , & a few from Anita Baker's "Rapture" album. I noticed that they all had the emotive quality that I described as Patty & Billie Holiday having in common. If you put them all together , you would ALMOST have Patty Griffin. "Long , Long Time" is a classic , & is right up there with Patty's music. Caught in my fears Blinking back the tears I can't say you hurt me When you never let me near Gary B.
