Right before the show she said she'd apologize for her behavior b/c she was about to go nuts when Patty hit the stage. My friend and I laughed... and then she said, "I'm not completely convinced that I'm not her." I think maybe that's what the draw is to Patty... the fact that she can touch emotions that no other artist has the ability to do. And to follow up w/ Don's comments on the Bluegrass band... they were great (and I can't remember their name either, I want to say Saddlehorse, but I could be completely wrong, I should've bought a $6 t-shirt!). I got a chance to talk to the banjo player, Chris. He said that this was the first time they'd ever performed together on stage... I found that phenomenal. They had such chemistry and it looked like they were having fun. Definitely fun to watch. (and I'll confess... I have a bit of a crush on the banjo player... ha!) But anyway, they said they had just met Patty over at the hotel in between sets... they're weren't terribly familiar w/ her music, but had heard a couple of songs and were definitely looking forward to the show. Gotta love it when artists are still fans at heart. Lastly... to follow up on the John Prine issue... for those of you in the Michigan area... John Prine will be performing at the Ark in Ann Arbor in June or July... tickets go on sale June 1. Don Henn wrote: MMers , Was Patty's neighbor for a few hours , as the bus pulled up a few spaces behind my car , & I spent an hour or 2 in it , including a short nap , while it was raining. Diane mentioned that Patty walked by while she was in the car , so she probably walked past me too. Geez Patty , the least you could have done was knock on the window to wake me up , & wave : ) Was happy to have the show moved inside b/c of the rain , but had to wait an hour or two for the move , & sound checks. Set list : Chief Rain Making Pies Long Ride Home Be Careful Flaming Red Nobody's Crying Tony Ruby's Arms Mad Mission Encore Mil Besos Probably some oversights again , as I don't have anything marked solo or Patty & Doug. Didn't meet anyone or strike up any conversation before the show , so I was more focused than usual on the music. I anticipated a short set , but was not disappointed b/c it was another great show. Wonder if Patty could put on a mediocre show if she tried to ? There were a few things I've been noticing lately , & finally made a note of it. On a number of songs , "Be Careful" & "Nobody's Crying" during this show , she gets well into the song before the ensemble joins in. I like the effect Also happens in the middle of a song occasionally. I specifically recall a number of lines during one version of "Mary" where the music stopped. Liked that too. Met Diane after the show , & was stopped by a wide-eyed , excited young lady in the gas station who must have noticed me. Asked me if I loved Patty too , & said she drove from Louisville. When I said I was there , she said she'd see me at the next one in Birmingham. Can't let her down , can I ? You simply have to meet Patty. I realize you are getting what you want/need by just following her around, but no good deed should go unrewarded. Hell, I think some of us should start following YOU around! Well, okay, THAT was a joke. As for really meeting Patty, why not? You've earned it. Don't be modest. I seem to recall that Jen finally met her this year, and look at all the she's done for Patty. But I won't go on about all this, it was just a thought (and a humorous one at that). I just like stirring the pot and don't think it's asking too much that one of Patty's biggest fans gets the opportunity to say hello. Just brush your teeth, comb your hair, and don't ask her to marry you. Are you really coming to see the California shows? We should hook up, as I am in S.F. So... is anyone interested in buying the tickets? The concert's in two weeks at the Great American Music Hall and I think the tickets are around $29 each with all the lovely fees tacked on. Please let me know if you're interested.
