Saw the set list posted prior and just wanted to add my thoughts. on the concert: WOW. This is the third show I have seen and it was the best for seeing and hearing her. This show I was able to really just watch her play and sing and could generally hear her very well. Having only Doug on guitar and the cello with no bass and drums makes for an interesting sound. Can't explain it other than it works. The three songs she played by herself were incredible and You Never Get What You Want was amazing. Flaming Red was just Patty and Doug. Patty was absolutely burning up her gutair because she was playing it so fast and furiously. It was pretty intense. One more note, like the Slate article about Patty, I watched how she moved around when she played. Often she would just kick the ground with her right foot and not exactly in rhythm with the song either. And every now and then she would kick her left leg out much like a horse does. It was very sweet because you know it was subconscious and she was very in to her playing. Again, just something I had never seen before. The tix will be at will call and I can just call and have the name switched. We can arrange payment later on (face value of course). E-mail me if you are interested. So after my quick trip from LA to see Patty perform twice in Chicago, I am in total bliss. I spoke with Patty myself and she confirmed she will be in LA an the end of the summer. She is soooooooooooooooooo sweet, and seemed to be amazed that I flew in all the way from LA to see her. I was like DUH!! you are so worth it. SIGH. What a lovely time... I travelled up to Calvin College and even though there were still tix available that day, the auditorium (two levels!) was packed! We got there kind of late and were forced to go up to the balcony - the farthest I've ever seen Patty. But it made me happy that she had such a packed show. She sound AMAZING this night - the sound was just suberb. Due to a couple quirky moments (string breaking 2nd song, etc), she kept mentioning the fact that Mercury is in Retrograde which just made me grin since I'm an Astrology freak. :) The Ann Arbor show on Sunday was equally impressive. There were a few funny moments too. Her dog (she refers to as "her boss") started barking during the first verse of "Rain," she stopped and started laughing telling us that someone must've taken her boss out to pee and then started the song over. :)The most amazing songs of the night, for me personally, were "Nobody's Cryin'" (of course) and "Let Him Fly" - she sounded SO bluesy and just completely raw and wonderful on "Let Him Fly" sigh. I finally got to meet Eugene and his lovely wife, Debbie. Talked a little with Jen and met Katie who does the tabs for Jen on the pattygriffin.net site. And said hi to Don from across the way. It was great seeing Mad Missioners at the show, it feels so much more personal. :) Hope to see you all at future shows too! If anyone taped either/both of these nights I would really LOVE to get my hands on a copy. I know it's early yet and I have patience, just getting the word out there. I do have other Patty show's to trade with and the recent Dar show from the Ark (including Kris Delmhorst's entire opening set). Peace and Happy Earth Day, Sarah PS - Is it just me or do you guys get so enveloped in Patty's show that you end up feeling like she's singing just TO YOU!? ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "When I choose a friend, I choose one who loves truth, respects Life and me, one who hears Music and sees the Moon, one who loves to see me smiling." -- Renee Locks _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 17:03:19 EDT From: PattyGriffinFan@aol.com Subject: MM: Bell Silver follow-up Greg Smith asked what Patty's reaction was when I gave her a copy of Silver Bell at her Boston in-store... I asked her if she already had a copy (there was a rumor she'd given all of hers away) and she said she did, but would like to keep the copy I gave her anyway. I sort of sensed she had someone in mind to give it to. Now...ask me what she said when I talked to her about Love From My Lips! I was like DUH!! you are so worth >it.> Chris, that is so sweet. I have yet to fly to a Patty show, but have logged many, many miles in the car. Many times I've wondered what Patty thinks when one night she sees me in a crowd of people in New Hampshire, then a week later in Michigan, then a few weeks later in Philly, or Alexandria, VA.. Hmm?? I've often times wondered what Patty would say if she knew some of the crazy things some of the MM'ers have gone through to see her. Of all the places I've driven, and all the times I went to work the next day with no sleep, I have to say that I've NEVER been disappointed or felt like Patty was not worth it. I would have loved to see her face if someone told her about Don driving from Pittsburgh to Vancouver to see her OPEN for the Dixie Chicks, then told her that he hasn't missed a single date on the current tour! She should just hitch his car to the back of her van or tour bus, & give him free admission to the shows!! ;-) She has always seemed like such a huge fan of music herself though. Her stories of Springsteen, and how she admires people like Tom Waits, The Smiths, etc.. somehow I think she would be flattered that we do these crazy things for HER, but would NOT think we were crazy/lunatics & would totally understand our love of her music. (I hope so at least.. (put the 2 CDs - with cover art - - on table in front of her)...Love From My Lips? PG - (after realizing what they are) Oh, yeah, I know stuff like that is out there... JFH - Well, how do you feel about it? Be honest. PG - (long pause) I, um, wish there could be more control of the audio quality of this kind of thing, but my Mom has them... JFH - Well, um, I helped with them... P{G - (laughing and falling back into her chair a bit) Oh really? JFH - Yeah... PG - Well, I understand there is no money involved. JFH - No, right. They are by fans for fans. And that is pretty much it for that part of the conversation. I had meant to actually give her the extra copies I had, but every time I pushed them on the table (at the in-store signing) towards her she sort of nudged them back at me. This was while we were talking so maybe she did not realize I was trying to give them to her. Things at these quickie signing deals are not always as smooth as silk. I did ask her to sign my copies and she did, so that counts for something, I guess. Also, I gave her a letter telling her how I'd been since I last saw her and in it was my phone number and e-mail address. I will let you know if I hear from anyone official to "cut it out." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 19:13:34 EDT From: Hhealy109@aol.com Subject: MM: (no subject) I saw few posts about Silver Bell... She asked my friend and I how far Calvin College was from UofM and we told her a couple of hours. She said "wow!" and looked impressed... I said "that's nothing!" I didn't delve into how many miles upon miles people have driven (or flown!) to see her since it seemed as though our turn was up and I didn't want to hog her. But if her reaction to a couple of hours within the same state is any indication, I'm sure she'd be amazed! I'm surprised she hasn't asked some of you to be part of her road crew yet! ;) Peace, Sarah ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "When I choose a friend, I choose one who loves truth, respects Life and me, one who hears Music and sees the Moon, one who loves to see me smiling." -- Renee Locks _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #153 *********************************
