I haven't been to tons of shows.....maybe 10. i'm from a rural town, so getting to the city to see a show is a major deal. Anyway, nearly every concert I've been too has had a late start...that is, the main act (I've seen Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Lucinda Williams).....they all seem to start later than advertised. I figured this was a normal occurrence. I know it's aggravating just the same, but I'm thinking seeing Patty perform live would make it all worthwhile. So far I haven't seen her in concert and I know it must be quite an amazing experience. take care, mike ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 23:19:52 -0700 From: Darren Holmquist Subject: MM: Patty live on the radio Did anyone tape the radio appearance yesterday that would be willing to share?? When management invites people, they usually are industry big wigs. People you want to impress and you certainly don't want to dis by starting your show before they get there. It's unfortunate that anyone has to get slighted, fans or invited people. However, in the music business it doesn't pay to ever burn bridges. As it is, I think all should be happy they got to hear a show. Do you know how freaking lucky you are, sheesh I live on the west coast and haven't had her play her in years!!! And if you want to blame anyone, blame the venue. They totally screwed up by putting the wrong time! So, go yell at them if you must yell at anyone. Don't ever blame the talent, it's almost never their fault. Later, Amy Yahoo! I produced a show here in Richmond last month and one of the things I insisted on was starting on time (we actually started 4 minutes late which is acceptable imo). I come from a theatre background and have stage managed before and I always tried to be prompt. People would want to "hold" because members of the audience would be late. Well, what about all the people who paid the same amount of money and managed to show up on time. I think starting a performance late is rewarding bad behavior and penalizing good behavior. I go to as many shows as a working girl can, and the fact of the matter is, there are different "versions" of start times. If you really don't wanna miss anything, YOU have to check if the time on the ticket or handbill is "doors" or "start," never mind figuring out if there are opening acts, how many, etc. Speaking specifically: I definitely sympathize with those who felt like they missed out, but it sounds like this Joe's pub gig was nothing more than an unfortunate circumstance, and should be left at that. I don't speak Spanish obviously! Everyone out here in CA speaks it but me I think- being a CT raised girl- took French, Latin and German in school. Not that I remember much of those either! Very beautiful lyrics- possibly the most positive and upbeat love song Patty has ever done then, at least that I have heard. Most of them her heart is broken or she is ticked. Good divorce songs, etc. I bet everyone else automatically figured it out.
