One of the reason I almost didn't go (among others) was because I saw on the website that it was $25, a two drink minimum (which at these places could add up to plenty just for a Coke) and that she was only playing for 75 min (and she didn't even play for that much). And all this was without dinner reservations, because I was not going to eat. So I would have been sitting who-knows-where. I didn't want to pay $40 or so for sucha short concert...and I couldn't convince any of my friends to pay that much for someone they don't even like, just so they can keep me company. Maybe it wasn't Patty's fault, that this was the only place she could get, and they wouldn't let her go for longer, but it's still frustrating. I usually miss most of the concerts i want to see, because of the date, etc. But I did see Ani Difranco for I think $35 bucks (maybe less, i forgot), and it was a nice long concert, and the place was packed. There you feel like you get your money's worth. And other concerts that sell out the second they go on sale, the only reason you end up paying a lot is because if you don't get it the second it goes on sale, you have to buy it for 4 times the price on eBay. $25 wouldn't be so bad for a concert, tho, if it was the right length. it really did go fast, and if I had spent all that money, I'd probably be pissed too. In the end, it all worked out pretty damn well for me, tho, so i'm not complaining. I'm just saying I understand why a lot of ppl are upset by it. - -Lisa - - - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Greg Smith" To: Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 9:13 AM Subject: Re: MM: Quality/Quantity > At 07:55 AM 4/12/2002 -0400, Karla Frisco wrote: > >Hi all! 10 hours until I will get to hear, see, and meet Patty! I'm not sure that could happen with Patty because she's my favorite ever. It could be that Natalie p'd me off because she can just be so self righteous and annoying! and Shawn just talked a lot, which i would have liked if the talking wasn't in place of music. Ronni Yahoo! Instead, with no announcement or anything, Patty did not get on stage until a few minutes after 8 and stopped at 9. While an hour show may or may not be good value at $25, it certainly is not appropriate when the show was originally scheduled to start an half-hour earlier. And it is even worse if there is no announcement, apology or anything. I enjoyed the show and most likely would pay $25 to see her live again, even for only an hour. But I do not appreciate being jerked around in the manner I felt all of us were who attended that show. I am curios how the April 10th show turned out and was it any longer? So much whining. How long have we waited for 1000 Kisses to be released and to see Patty live again? Yes her Joe's Pub set on 4/9 was only an hour, but it was WONDERFUL to see her again. and she wasn't at all overpowered by her band this time around. and the cello is beautiful. and i actually LIKE the accordian. i found it to be a great show; i was so happy for her to see her back on stage with so many troubles behind her. the nightmare of former record label(s); the 'loss' (for all of us) that is Silver Bell... To me, it was a night of promise: here was Patty back onstage on the release date of her new record, with a new label and some new bandmates at the start of a long new tour, and she even pointed out that it was the true 'first day of spring' in nyc, weather-wise. although the show was short, it was an absolutely beautiful evening. The tickets said 7:30, and they did not take the stage until ~8:30 - who knows why. There was another show scheduled for 9:30 so they had to stop when they did to get all of us out and allow the audience for the other show into the venue. For me, having waited this long just to see her perform, it was well worth the price of admission. I can see that a short set would be disappointing, but I don't understand the people complaining about having to pay for dinner - it was YOUR choice to make reservations. You got to sit at a table on the floor and eat a good meal. You could have just as easily foregone the dinner option and sat/stood upstairs. Joe's Pub is a small venue; there's not a bad spot anywhere. Congratulations to Patty and Doug and the band!! I hope you all get a chance to see them. more later... -mj. on 4/12/02 11:03 AM, Rongrittz@aol.com at Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: >>> Yes, it may be disappointing if she played for an hour. I am surprised the shows are so short as well, has anyone sen a show this tour that clocks in at over an hour? I thought the webcast last week was 60 min because it was a station birthday show and not a regular set. Now it looks like the shows themselves are just an hour. I caught the HMV in store yesterday and Patty was in fine form and I would like to see her Somerville show, but it is long sold out. Of course I could still wrangle a ticket if I really want to put forth the effort ( you know the drill ) but with such a short set, I may pass. In this day and age 25 is a deal for concert tickets...but 60 min is a woefully short performance time. Especially for an established artist with several cds worth of material. 20 min for free at HMV was an incredible deal though.
