Looks like a double whammy!>> Good call Karla! For those of you not privileged enough to say you've gotten to see Darcie Miner live, Do yourself a favor & go see her & her excellent band at the Grape Street Pub on Friday night! She is a brilliant up & coming singer/songwriter, and at this point she doesn't get out to the Philly area all too often. Like Karla said, it'll be a double Whammy & a great start to the weekend! You're likely to hear a few great Patty covers too. Take into account that this is coming from someone who is VERY particular about who should & should NOT cover a Patty Griffin song. It just figures, the day after I booked my flight to Florida Patty decided it would be a good idea to play an in-store that's actually somewhat close to my home town. 6 years of following her around, and this is the kind of treatment I get?? (typical ungrateful woman I tell you... LOL) Then Darcie goes & books a show in the same town that very night! Ahhh!! *brain hemorrhage* (just kidding) On a separate note.. isn't the artwork and insert to 1,000 Kisses absolutely amazing!?!? Could you imagine that on an old LP?? Wow! Love & Music. Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 21:02:02 EDT From: FlamingRed74@aol.com Subject: MM: Patty with ATO Hey guys, I was just admiring the cover art, and the really nice job that the record company did in putting 1,000 Kisses together. Did anyone notice that it says the entire CD was recorded in only 6 days?? With all the crap that's out there in the music world these days, and all the artists taking months and months to record a disc, isn't it refreshing to know that something so beautiful, so perfect can be done in a mere 144 hours!?!? Hmm.. It just goes to show that Patty's music is done the most justice when it's done simply. I guess this is where the "less is more" statement totally rings true. On another note. It seems that the record company FINALLY gets it. They seem to know that they have an immense talent on their hands in Patty Jean Griffin. Even though ATO is not a huge mega-label, all signs show that they will be doing a lot to support & market this CD. The redisigned website, the signs & promo stuff that has been mentioned that have been up at record stores already. I'm sure all the reviews in the various newspapers & magazines, as well as the TV appearance can be due in no small part to the work of ATO. Thanks, guys!!! It's about time that Patty gets out there & gets more known so that EVERYONE can take in the beauty of her voice & her songs. That's all I have to say.. thoughts?? For those that checked out the RollingStone.com review, also look at the bottom of the page. You can vote for the songs, as well as the CD as a whole. I would imagine it would spark sales a bit if we all went and gave the CD our loving approval! ;-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 21:18:27 EDT From: SteadyOnDC@aol.com Subject: MM: Loving 1000 Kisses... What a great cd, eh? I also have a hard time getting past "Rain" ...just LOVE this song. I've been a big fan of "Long Ride Home" for years now...so I'm thrilled that it made the cd. Another favorite is "Making Pies." And "Tomorrow Night" is just...just....swoonful. Brings to mind the same jaw-dropping response as when I first heard Patty sing "Go Now" live at The Somerville Theatre. Chills!!! And how sensual sounding is that Spanish song?!?! WOW. Ms. Griffin is simply amazing. - -Denise C. Okay, I got the CD yesterday (I think I jumped up and down and squealed when I opened my mail) and I've listened to it nearly nonstop since then, but maybe I've missed something. When the heck has Patty ever sung soprano? I've been singing along like crazy, and I'm a mezzo on my very best of days. When she sings "weep, weep, weep" on RAIN, that's exactly what I want to do because it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard! To add to Dave's previous email (FlamingRed74@aol.com) - the 6 hours it took to record this CD is truly amazing, but what else would you expect from a splendously talented artist who doesn't need all the fancy, over-produced stuff to sell records?! Thank God for true talent - thank God for Patty Griffin! on 4/9/02 8:18 PM, SteadyOnDC@aol.com at SteadyOnDC@aol.com wrote: > What a great cd, eh?
