Once again, fun, >happy music definately has its place and its not the individual >bands/groups >that I have a problem with. Hell, how could you? They aren't individuals >they are products just like a burger, a car or laundary detergent. i wasn't debating the business side of things. and certainly not marketing ploys/strategies either. that's another topic altogether. one that does not apply exlusively to music and could go on and on forever (i'm agreeing with you here :)). i was simply referring to taste and/or personal preference. the topic had stretched out from nikka costa as an opening act to violence towards women. i was simply trying to point out that no matter what side of the fence you sit, this music is still out there and i don't see the point in belittling people who choose to listen. especially if it makes them happy. hell, with all the grief in the world, what the hell is wrong with some music that puts a smile on your face. if it doesn't make you smile, that's alright too! but don't disregard the fact that it may make others happy. without them being slutty whores with no intelligence as a result. (i know no one said that exactly, calm down everyone). and i agree that there are far more talented people out there. but do you realize HOW MANY people out there? i personally know a good 10 or 12 people that i truly think have "it" to make it out there. There are zillions of people who would love a shot at what Patty does. But the fact is, we can't all be stars. There's always going to be the money-hungry mongers and everyone else. And the fact is, those people who can't get on shelves and who are not big sellers, they're still getting heard. They have mailing lists dedicated to them. That is a dream come true for a lot of people. There are people in subway stations in NYC singing and playing for nickels and dimes and THEY have more talent than a lot of people on the radio, but they don't even have a home! Selling out to small 500 seat venues would be a fantasy to them. Okay....so I'm going off....but hopefully you see my point. Enough. hee hee. G'night and listen to what you WANT, Sarah PS - i completely forgot! i saw Nikka a week ago in Detroit and she went off about not being categorized or put in a box and she talked about listening to different kinds of music and how she and her friends listen to ALL kinds of music. She said "you may come home from work one day pissed off and wanna hear some Rage Against the Machine. Then a little later you mellow and want some Coltrane. Then at the end of the night you may want to shake your ass a little to some...some...whatever it is" someone shouted something and she said "sure! whatever you're into..." Hmmm..perhaps this was a foreshadowing of backlash to come her way re: Britney? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "May you dream you are dreaming in a warm soft bed And may the voices inside you that fill you with dread Make the sounds of thousands of angels instead Tonight where you might be laying your head... I wish you well..." -- Patty Griffin _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #102 *********************************
