Subject: MM: Ryan Adams I'm writing this in a bit of a hurry, so I may not give due courtesy -- apologies in advance. I also heard a lot about Ryan Adams, from the critics and various lists, so invested in "Gold" as my first purchase of the year. Now, excuse me while I climb into my asbestos, flame-proof bunker, and preface this with an almighty "IMHO" : I listened in disbelief, and barely made it through the album. I found it anaemic, dreary, derivative generic "rawk", thinly produced and sung with a voice that can only be described as "pleasant". I listened to the album several times to see if it would grow on me, but actually found my attention wandering out of sheer boredom each time. I have no compulsion to go back and listen to it again in the near future. Maybe the Whiskeytown stuff is better -- on the evidence of "Gold", I will never know. Amazing, what makes a horse race, isn't it? At this point, I leave town for the weekend. Good thing, too. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Jan 2002 15:37:33 EST From: Underwoodskee@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: RE: OT: Ryan Adams suggestions I wanted to thank everyone for the artist recommendations that have appeared on this list recently. I don't remember if Mark Erelli was mentioned on this list or not. I would suggest checking out his two CD's. His music is kind of a mix between folk and alternative country. Mark's voice sounds a bit like Ellis Pauls only in a lower range. In my opinion he writes and sings as if he's been performing for 20 years. It's hard for me to believe that he is only in his mid twenties. I feel he is someone we are going to be hearing a lot more about in the coming years.
