Howdy- This morning on WUMB, I heard a song that I didn't recognize. The vocalist sounded like Maura O'Connell, but a bit darker and edgier. Kind of like a mix of Maura and Susan McKeown. It turned out to be Maura after all, and it was a cut from her upcoming CD, *Walls and Windows*. As was mentioned here a couple of days ago, "Poor Man's House" is listed as a track on the disc. However, the announcer on WUMB, Marilyn Rae Beyer, said that today's track was also a Patty composition: "Long Ride Home." Again, I didn't know the song, but really, really liked it. And had I known ahead of time that it was a Patty song, I'd have paid more attention... Anyhow, can anyone enlighten me about the song? (And believe me, I know that had I only partaken of the LFML offer, as I intended to, I wouldn't be this ignorant of Patty info...) Also, I saw that PBS will be rerunning on 12/1 the "Austin City Limits" featuring Patty. Finally, Lee: You're quite welcome! "Long Ride Home" is my favorite song off of the LFML cd's along with "Falling Down" which happen to play back to back on the CD. Killer stuff IMHO. Ciao, Joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 16:24:27 -0500 From: "Luca, Joseph" Subject: MM: "Poor Man's House" Howdy- Well, I've apparently got a dose of epistolary diarrhea. Three messages in one week: That should take care of me for a couple of years. Anyhow, WUMB just played Maura O'Connell's version of PMH. The announcer said that the first time he heard it, he had a hard time matching the voice with the song. It *is* a distinct version; some drenching electric guitar and a bit of a country background, but still dark... I love this station. It might be too folky for some, but it's the best station I've ever heard. Just before PMH, they played "Sweet Lorraine"; earlier, as I wrote, they played Maura's version of "Long Ride Home." If you're in southern New England, you can find it at 91.9 FM. And if you're anywhere else in the world (actually, of course, including southern New England), you can check it out on www.wumb.org . I'll try to refrain from any more near-future posting. Ciao, Joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 16:33:20 -0500 From: Scott Antall Subject: MM: Patty at ATO?!!!?
