Hey all- Someone recently emailed me from my site and said she'd come aross a Patty demo in a thrift store that was labeled as being from 1991. The songs include: i write the book the longer you wait you don't have me under these clouds let your freedom ring off you go And the tape has a number for a management company. Does anyone have any more info about this demo? I don't know if this is one of Jen's rarities sources- I know that I know all of the songs, but I don't know if I know them live or from a studio recording. Any info would help- thanks! The 37-year-old Griffin was signed to A&M Records in 1994, releasing "Living With Ghosts" and "Flaming Red" over the next few years, but she had an ugly breakup with them earlier this year over her new album, "Silver Bell." Interscope (the label that she was transferred to when A&M disappeared) refused to release the disc, saying that it didn't include any viable singles. Griffin requested a release from her contract, which she got, but she lost the rights to her album. However, during a June concert in Nashville, she told fans that she intends to release an album entitled "A Thousand Kisses," so she's obviously got more up her sleeve. Enter ATO: Griffin needs a label in order to survive, but she's wary of the big boys. ATO, who has signed just four artists so far (David Gray, Chris Whitley, Ben Kweller, and Gov't Mule), was initially created for David Gray, who was in a very similar situation at the time. The tiny label should be ideal for Griffin. ATO Records was founded early last year by Dave Matthews, Coran Capshaw, Michael McDonald and Chris Tetzeli. About a year ago (maybe longer?) I was trying to make a tape of people covering Patty tunes. I had close to thirty people sign up!!! However, only FOUR people actually sent submissions. Would anyone still be interested in doing this?? Love From My Lips 3 and 4 have been put on hold until we can find out what the tracklist of Patty's new album will be and this may be a good way to pass the time. If interested please e-mail me at PGCoverTape@aol.com and let me know what song/songs you would be interested in doing. Take Care All, Jen :) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V5 #231 *********************************
