I really appreciate her caring about me so much. I'm so desperate to be black , & so insecure about my own abilities. Thanks for the needed support , Tori. Poor , poor , pitiful me. God forbid that I should have a difficult time! Of course , there is no such thing as a man-hating , heterophobic , left- winger , is there? From the context , it seems that Tori was talking about being defecated on in a literal sense , but my perception is that w/h/ms get dumped on figuratively , in the public arena ,more than anyone. Being accused of "insensitivity" to others , & then ridiculed if they object , for being "defensive" or "too sensitive". "Oh , the big , tough man can't take it !" I object to being stereotyped just as strenuously as anyone else. Those w/h/ms who think that they should have the power in this society by virtue of being same , have it coming. But so does anyone else that believes their skin color , gender , or sexual orientation entitles them to special treatment or privileges. The ideals that the formerly "downtrodden" seem to espouse , will never be realized as long as ANY group is demonized , or looked upon as needing everyone else's help & compassion. I would guess that approximately the same percentage in each group are demons that should be resisted or weak souls who should receive our mutual support. "The fault , dear Brutus , lies not in the stars , but in ourselves" Guess I got carried away again. Sorry if I rained on your parade , Sarah. I think she may have been commenting on the way that society is changing - and rightly so, in my opinion - in that now the people who once had it all coming to them are now having to face and deal with people different from them making progress in this world. I don't think she was lumping all white/hetero's together necessarily nor was she lumping all non-white/homosexuals together. I think it's just Tori's crazy brain at work once more. She's seen a lot....from her early teen days of playing in gay bars to helping young men and women cope with rape and sexual assault to coming in contact with so many young fans with all different kinds of situations and backgrounds and she actually takes time to listen to a lot of them and tries to help. I think she's a remarkable woman with such a powerful mind and heart and I genuinely don't think that she would ever argue the fact that there are man-hating, heterophobics and all kinds of "hating" in every sect. I just think she started to think about (probably read about too) some kind of change in society as she sees it and has decided to expound on that in her music - not to offend ANY group of people. I understand what you are saying though, Don. Just had to stick up for ma girl. ;) >From: "Donald Henn" >To: "mad-mission" >Subject: MM: NPC-Re: Fwd: Rolling Stone text >Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 02:43:35 -0400 > >MMers & Sarah , > > Although I do respect Tori's considerable talents , >as a singer , songwriter , & musician , I have to take >issue with her lumping me in with her perception of >the "white , heterosexual male" in this country. >I really appreciate her caring about me so much. >I'm so desperate to be black , & so insecure about >my own abilities. As though we're all on a level playing field now???? PLEASE. That is ridiculous. If you don't think the white, heterosexual, right-wing male has a whole lot to do with the past strife as well as the mess we're in, I suggest you take another look.
